Poe's kind of a reunion act.

I'd have to go to Elysium because I could definitely get in for free. I know mad people at UCLA.

I don't like where Hasselhoff is billed...
I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. . . . corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed.

See I could easily see myself spending 25$ to go to any one of the three days of Elysium and being able to catch 4-5 acts I'd either enjoy or see for the novelty (The Hoff). However, spending nearly 100$ on a single day of Weekend in the Park?... I don't think I could ever spend that much to see Tool in a non-intimate setting ever again. Although, I must say, the designer chose a nice background photo. Elysium it is.

75 bucks? Wow. That is some thrify festival making going on. I don't think we are going to see any festival as cheap as this. But its only cheap in price, lots of great acts booked.

Then again, Weekend in the Park is awesome. Great line up. Unique and diverse as well.

    This will require some thinking.

Not really blown away by either of these, but i'd go to a 3 day festival that was only $75 even if there was only a handfull of bands worth seeing.

    Wow.

Okay, Weekend in the Park is a massively stacked lineup in a wonderful location with some surprise acts like Morris Day & the Time (major props for that). And props for having the balls to put up an act as divisive as Rush. Surprised at all the George Clinton love...I expected maybe one or two fests to think of the P-Funk, but not several. Not that I'm faulting any of them, it's definitely a change of pace; a case of great minds thinking alike like Stevie Wonder was last year. And this is the one fest where I would actually want ins & outs. Fuck festival food, go grab some real New York pizza for meals.

But I have to go with Elysium because it's $75 for a 3 day pass. It'd be worth $25 a day just to see a couple early in the day bands, and I want to see or at least check out more than half the acts. Wait, did I just see Poe? Yellow Magic Orchestra? Buena Vista Social Club? Dave Chappelle? THE HOFF? Holy monk, did anyone expect any of these.

    Yusuf strikes again.

Is Elysium the only fest that took advantage of optional sponsors? New Belgium makes some good beer, and I'd actually pay $7 at a festival for one.

I'd pay $291 not to be subjected to SOAD.

$75 is a good deal for Elysium. You win.

What's up with "The Raconeurs" (whoever they are) playing in The Park on Sunday and The Dead Weather palying in The Park on Saturday.

Either The Raconeurs are some band I've never head of or it's a typo and Jack White is playing Saturday and Sunday. I'm sure that's allowed?

Weekend in the Park is my vote.

While Elysium is a sweet deal, the airfare for me to fly out to it would make up for the difference in cost expense. Plus I like the lineup for Weekend in the Park much more.

However, the fact that FSOL is on the 2nd to last line (below pendulum, bloody beetroots (wtf?), simian mobile, and RITM) is a fucking crime and is almost enough to make me change my vote. Learn more about your electronic artists before you start picking ones for your festival. If this is any indication on when they play during the day, which I hope its not, it's very disappointing.

Elysium is cheap. Not loving either lineup really, but I'm down with Blur and The Verve as headliners.

We really should have grouped these contests based on location. Kind of a bias since most of the boardies here live in cali.

That was part of the strategy though Matt. The person who made Elysium had a brilliant idea. A strong festival for only $75 AND it is close to a lot of the board members. I am sure it is no mistake the creator of Elysium choose to put his festival in California.

That might have made things overly complicated, seeing as there's only a select few of posters from the midwest and what-not. That MIGHT work if there had been an even distribution of locations as a sort of raffle, but that would have stripped the contest of another creative freedom.

That's kind of a lame strategy/cop-out though. I mean if thats the case, then everyone should have put their fests on in Cali. I dont know, it just seems a bit unfair to me. In my opinion, it kinda takes away from the creative aspect of the festival and instead starts gearing towards a festival thats out there just to win. I will say though that the 75 dollar price tag is a good move. But its all cool.

If I remember correctly, there was an even number of fests in each category, meaning it would have probably worked fine for the round of 32. But I can't guarantee that though.

I think the hard part about billing electronic acts is that these festivals tend to be more top-heavy than real ones, and some of the artists in question don't have precedent when it comes to billing. We know Aphex Twin would be billed high because he's a big name and is billed fairly high at the few festivals he plays, but what about acts that never play live like FSOL and Burial?

I had to go with Weekend in the Park, the lineup is much better for me. New York seems like a great place for fest too, get to spend a couple days in the city before the fest. Plus it has mother fucking Spinal Tap.
