The whole 12/21/2012 thing is based upon the prediction that Earth will align with our Sun and the supermassive black hole at the center of the Milky Way (as many known galaxies have been confirmed to have them). I agree that everything we know is from the perspective of humans and that there is a great possibility that we do not possess the highest form of intelligence in the universe. All we must consider to believe this is the fact that there are more galaxies in the universe than grains of sand on Earth, and each of these galaxies has anywhere from ten million (10,000,000) to one trillion (1,000,000,000,000) stars. Our Sun is one star with a planetary system that contains intelligent life, so imagine if only one out of every 100, or even 1000, stars out there contained some form of intelligent life. That would obviously mean that there are a lot of intelligent beings in our universe. As such, yes, humans could be completely wrong about any significant or catastrophic events occurring on Dec. 21, 2012. Although, we must also take into account that the Mayans (who devised the calendar that ended on this date) have had the most accurate calendar ever recorded in the history of humankind and were able to predict solar and lunar eclipses thousands of years in advance...

The Mayan calendar was accurate for its context, and an ability to predict solar and lunar eclipses doesn't mean you could predict an apocalypse; after all, we can predict a lot more than eclipses today, and we don't have a set date for an apocalypse, and neither did the Mayans for that matter. Also, the myth about 2012 is always changing, and that's one way to tell that its shenanigans. I think mostly, the myth doesn't revolve around aligning with a supermassive black hole, but that Planet Nibiru will enter our solar system during a planet alignment that puts Earth in the center of the Milky Way.
