I can see why Jones opted out. One article I read said that he really only would've had 3 days of camp to train for Sonnen, whose style is considerably different from Henderson's. Sonnen doesn't have anything to lose really by taking the fight with 3 days of camp -- he's moving up a weight class and fighting someone who's considered #2 in the world right now. If he loses, it wouldn't be as harmful to his career or potential earnings as if Jones were to lose. Has Jones ever faced anybody with the skill set Sonnen has?

I can see why Jones would be apprehensive about taking the fight, but he should have taken it anyway. So many people are getting screwed over by the event being canceled. It's his job to fight.

Henderson is a wrestler as is Sonnen. The big difference with fighting Sonnen is he doesn't have to avoid those bombs Henderson throws.

Sonnen is one of the best fighters in the UFC. The guy won 5 of the 7 rounds he has fought against Silva(I know he lost both fights). I understand Jones not taking the fight, but it really screws over all the fighters in the undercard not getting paid now.

Holy shit. Just leaving the Thomas and mack. Great fight. No contreversy Martinez clearly won. Great last round though. Chavez almost pulled it off. Cant wait to see the see replay. Cant wait to come back for the rematch either.

Holy shit just watched the replay of Robert Guerrero-Andre Berto on HBO from Saturday, and wow what a brawl. These 2 dudes beat the fuck out of each other. Guerrero wants Floyd Mayweather next, but a rematch between these two needs to happen first.

Sports Illustrated's Chris Mannix wrote a wonderful profile of Top Rank chairman Bob Arum, who will turn 81 on Saturday. That's the same day that Arum promotes the fourth fight between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez, one that is expected to generate at least 1 million pay-per-view sales.

Mannix's rollicking piece is filled with anecdotes from Arum's 46 years as one of boxing's leading promoters.


Jimmy Brown retired as the NFL's all-time leading rusher The best, though, details the time that NFL great Jimmy Brown decided he wanted to fight then-heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali.

Brown is one of the greatest players in NFL history and is regarded by many as the finest athlete of the 20th century. In addition to being a dominant NFL player, Brown is also arguably the best lacrosse player who ever lived.

He also had a legendary reputation for his toughness. Given that Brown had introduced Arum to Ali, it was hard for Arum to say no without at least checking. Brown figured it was a slam dunk massive payday.

Brown had retired from the Cleveland Browns after the 1965 season, while Arum began promoting in 1966. Ali was the heavyweight champion and entering his prime, while Brown was becoming an actor. Arum felt indebted to Brown, so he decided to see if he could convince Ali of the merits of the idea.

So I went to talk to Ali. He says, 'Jim wants to do what? Bring him here.' So I took him to Hyde Park in London, where Ali used to run. Ali said, 'Jimmy, here's what we're going to do: You hit me as hard as you can.' So Brown starts swinging and swinging, and he can't hit him. He's swinging wildly and not even coming close. This goes on for, like, 30 seconds. Then Ali hits him with this quick one-two to his face. Jimmy just stops and says, 'OK, I get the point.'

Brown was far superior to Ali as an athlete and probably could have beaten him at any game they might have played. In boxing, though, not even the great Jim Brown was in Ali's classic.

Mannix's piece is meticulously researched and marvelously written and well worth checking out.

So, I guess Kimbo Slice tried his luck in professional boxing, and durring a recent fight with a big Aussie dude, Kimbo, forgetting that it wasn't an MMA fight, tackled the poor dude to the ground. Bwahahahaha true story

I think Floyd wussed out on a fight with Canelo Alvarez in May, but if Canelo takes cares of business against Trout, I think Floyd would have to fight him. Trout didnt look anything special in his win against Cotto late last year. Mayweather smoked Cotto. So I'll be disappointed for that reason if Canelo Alvarez loses to Trout.

At age 48 Bernard Hopkins became the oldest the oldest champion in boxing by winning a unanimous decision over Tarvaris Cloud on HBO. He's the light heavyweight champion. After the fight he called out Andre Ward. It would be great to see those guys tangle. I think Ward would destroy him, but at least Hopkins, a known name, is going out of his way to try and make a big name fight happen... unlike some people we know cough*Mayweather*cough!

Another option for Ward- Sergio Martinez.
