Agreed, okay so I take back what I posted earlier "FUCK UFC" it's more like fuck the fans that act like they are the greatest combat sport in the world and are taking over all sports its those kind of fans that piss me off. Yes UFC is gaining popularity in the states at an alarmingly fast pace and boxing has fallen out of the mainstream public eye ever since the mid to late 90's when Mike Tyson was fading away from the sport. Boxing is still the worlds #1 combat sport second to none, look at it as soccer is to american football. Soccer worldwide popularity, Footbal america only (although it has fan base in other countries just not as big). So with that feel free to discuss all you want about all things boxing er mma. *light up a smoke

For the record I do like MMA... but ... World Class Boxing> MMA every single time!!!!

Boxing is like the record industry, a self-blundered mess.

I really love boxing, boxed in highschool, raised in louisville...you know the story.

What can be done to fix things? Unify belts? Hype personalities? I don't know...

Pride, Dream, Sengoku, Valkyrie. Japan seems pretty interested in MMA.

One of the things I never liked about boxing, was waiting for the main event. I can't remember the last MMA card I saw where I felt I was "waiting" for the main event.

im not gonna say that MMA is gonna take over boxing, but it is definitely making an impact worldwide.

yes it is corrupt from promoters trying to make the most money, to managers holding back their fighters from tough challenges, questionable scoring by the judges and the list goes on... but when you put two fighters in the ring that are in their prime of their careers all of that stuff is forgotten and you witness a fight/ sporting event that is truly unmatched by ANY sport!!!

NOTE: THE 10th ROUND IS PROBABLY THE GREATEST ROUND IN RECENT HISTORY!

this is an opinion. in my case, the first part of your post is a big reason why i dont watch boxing. hearing a fighter doesnt wanna fight because he is only making so many millions of dollars isnt exciting to me.

yes an opinion based on me witnessing mostly all major sports NFL,NBA,MLB,MMA and even a nascar event none of those matched the excitement, athletiscm, courage/heart that I witnessed when I saw my first major boxing fight in Las Vegas and the majority of people who have seen all these sports would say the same thing. Because even if your not a fan of boxing or sports in general, boxing has that raw emotion element to it, two people fighting in the ring it makes for a crazy live atmosphere CRAZY that gets people pumped up. MMA has an electric atmosphere too but its different that I dont want to get into too much detail right now.

    wrong.

boxing is two people boxing in a ring.

MMA is as close to two people fighting as you can get, without having an actual fight.

ive been in a couple fights. i dont remember putting on gloves, watching my foot work and bobbing and weaving. what i do remember is trying to destroy the person in front of me by any means necessary. thats neither boxing, nor MMA. thats fighting. MMA is much closer to that than boxing.

not boxing, MMA, yes. 2 of them, and im going to my third in april.

i know what you're talking about...its crazy. when i went to my first live hockey game, that too was overwhelmingly exciting.

that bad part about MMA is that its fairly new. you got these guys walking around wearing tapout clothes, stickers on their cars and they think they're bad asses. knowing full well none of them could tell you the difference between a rear naked choke and a mata leon. they then bring that in to the arena and get drunk, and there you have it. a bad name for MMA. and the only difference between a mata leon and a rear naked choke is the language.

Rampage Hurt; Evans-Machida Set for UFC 98

    Wednesday, March 11, 2009
    by Sherdog.com Staff

    16533
UFC President Dana White confirmed Wednesday that Lyoto Machida, not Quinton Jackson, will challenge champion Rashad Evans for the light heavyweight title at UFC 98 on May 23.

In an interview with Yahoo Sports, White said Jackson needs jaw surgery and would not be ready for UFC 98.

The Jackson-Evans matchup, which was hyped Saturday following Jackson’s win over Keith Jardine at UFC 96, was intended to replace the Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir main event that was postponed after Mir’s knee surgery.

Evans told Sherdog.com on Monday that he had a “feeling” that Jackson would not be able to fight. In Machida, he faces an opponent who, like himself, is undefeated.

“The kid’s been phenomenal,” Evans said of Machida. “He’s been better than phenomenal. He’s been looking better every fight. But that’s the fight business. That’s the fun part about a fight is the fact that you go in there with an opponent that sometimes seems insurmountable. But then you figure it out and that makes the victory that much sweeter. With that said, there may be some kinks in his armor that I have yet to see that I can exploit when I look at the tapes more closely. Nobody’s unbeatable. Machida’s been looking slicker than I don’t know what, but everybody has a weakness even if you do look slick as oil. Everyone has a weakness.”

Looks like Evans has some serious work cut out for him.

The undercard was horrible, one of the worst in ppv history!!! There were 3 undercard fights and each ended in 2 rounds or less they were all up and coming young exciting talent the problem was they were fighting a couple of bums. This is one of the major problems in big boxing ppv fights you pay 50 bucks for 1 fight and in the UFC, cards are stacked with competitive fights. But so far in 2009 boxing seems to be finally understanding that they have serious competition in the UFC and are making their cards more evenly matched this year also showing less ppv's, only mega fights are going to be ppv (Pacquiao vs Hatton) all other fights are being shown on cable tv(HBO,Showtime,ESPN, & Versus Networks)

Too bad Margarito is going to be out of commission for awhile.

Cotto is my boy, I always need to support the fellow Puerto Ricans..

There are some good fights on the horizon. I'm also looking forward to seeing Paul Williams vs. Winky Wright in April, that dude is a beast.

i'm waiting to see fedor from pride fighting start dismantling more people from UFC... he was a MONSTER in pride.... in fact i saw him destroy "the monster" randleman after getting suplexed head-first into the canvas by randleman... that was the sickest slam EVER! yet fedor came back to win that fight... seriously it looked like a FATALITY from mortal combat or something... if you haven't seen that fight check it out....

you people need to educate yourselves on the sport before making such ignorant comments. they both take an extraordinary amount of training, skill, "strategy", stamina......the list goes on. its fine if you dont like it, just dont be dumb. there are many fighters in MMA the have good boxing records, and train with world class "boxing" trainers. as a matter of fact, some wanna go in nto boxing as well. mainly Andre Arlovski and Anderson Silva. Both have amazing striking ability.

you puerto rican? would explain the love for boxing. its in our blood.
