There's the freak-folker we were missing all along!
This should be good.

I've seen him only once but it was a really good time. He played a shit load of songs, acoustic and full band, as well as inviting a crowd member to come up and play a song for everyone. Fucking cool guy.
You guys can combine this with the Natalie Portman thread now.

If there's any one man solo acoustic acts we're missing it's Michael Gira. If any of you guys saw him at the echo last night, you'd probably agree.
Hipster alert!
devendra banhart is for college lesbians. like all my friends who introduced me to him in college. not to say that this is a bad thing, i will bring a few extra joints for the fellow and toss them up stage. i guarantee this man will get stoned with us at coachella. and you will enjoy his sexy spanglish folkcoustica, k?
Saw him at Outsidelands and his band killed... Lakers jersey, yellow suede shoes, and all. I didn't know how good "Carmensita" was until he played it live... I didn't understand some of it, but the music spoke for itself.

You forgot the preposterously affected gypsy routine.

Have you heard the Megapuss album that came out last year? It's Devandra with Greg Rogove (Priestbird). It's awesome. I love him. Plus he looks like Jesus.
^^^
And the drummer from The Strokes. Really dig it.
I might see him on Sunday, but it's such a busy day, I kind doubt it. I'm really glad he was added regardless. And I know people that are infinitely happy that he's added.
I saw his set at OSL, and it was okay. I miss the folky solo-acoustic singer-songwriter Devendra, and I'd much rather see that. But it's still a fun show I guess.
he just has that douche look to him. ill pass....
Excellent add, GV! Kudos! I am so looking forward to his set.
For those of you unfamiliar there's often a sense of michief at play in his music. One moment he'll play a delightfully ridiculous song like Carmenista, for which you've probably seen the video featuring Natalie Portman trapped in a rather nutso Bollywood scene:
And then he'll play a simple, elegant and rather haunting number like 'Now That I Know'. In fact, 'Now That I Know' was the first song of his I heard and it stopped me in my tracks that first time. One of the loveliest songs I've heard in years.
Free Stream of 'Now That I know'
I checked him out after this was announced. It's actually pretty good stuff.
was anyone else at that La Orpheum show when he invited the entire crowd onstage to dance??? great times....I had a third row/center seat and it was quite the ordeal...the security didn't enjoy his antics and almost stopped the show a time or two, but it all worked out in the end
