so i feel pretty ignorant, but what are the other good worthwhile festivals in CA. i know detour, coachella, noise pop, treasure island, and burning man.
is that just about all? 'specially in terms of music?
thanks.

Is burning man a festival? I don't really consider an event where the people going provide the entertainment to be a festival. It's more like a gathering or a ticketed desert camping party.
I had the chance to go to Outside Lands in '08 and desperately wanted to go last year but could find no one who wanted to go with me. Many people have talked endless shit about it, but I actually thought it was excellent. The line-up was phenomenal. Security was quite lenient: people brought in handles of liquor and a menagerie of drug paraphernalia without hardly trying to conceal it. The food and alcohol selection was great (they had a wine tasting tent), and they had some cool activities to do if you're not watching the live acts. The crowd was generally awesome. Overall, top notch festival.
