I'm calling hippie/classic rock fest on a much smaller scale from '99. That said, I'll probably still go seeing as how it is guaranteed to be in close proximity to my parent's house...

Woodstock will not have any band like Metallica, Limp Bizkit, Rage Against The Machine or Red Hot Chili Peppers. I am thinking the line up Woodstock '69 band (or type bands) with a very Bonnaroo/Coachella type line up to fill in the rest.

I would expect a more "live earth" type lineup...you know like crap like Fergie, MCR, Sheryl Crow, and Green Day.

Their laser show is awesome... but they only utilize it for two songs. Which was kinda lame.

I know most of you probably will view this as a dumb question, but where do you think it will be taking place?
it's better to live as if there are no "do-overs," so that you won't need one. I thought I'd share this with you, to work in the bits about fear, mistakes, and how precious today's opportunities are.

Woodstock reloaded in NY and Berlin

Chief Woodstock promoter Michael Lang is planning two free Woodstock concerts in Berlin, Germany and in New York in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the original 1969 festival. According to the press release, the New York show still doesn't have a venue, but will take place on the actual 40th anniversary of August 15th and 16th. The Berlin show will take place at the now-closed Tempelhof Airport on August 22nd and August 23rd.

Lang and his partners are hoping to snag some of the original participants that performed at Yasgur's Farm back in '69, including Santana, the Who, Joan Baez, Joe Cocker, Grateful Dead, Country Joe and the Fish, as well as current top acts.

Although the Who stayed away from the 1994 and 1999 Woodstock events, Pete Townshend was on hand for the festival's 29th anniversary show in 1998, which was the only one to actually take place in Bethel, New York on Max Yasgur's farm in Bethel, New York. John Entwistle appeared at Woodstock '99 and performed a solo set on one of the festival's smaller stages.

Townshend still regards the Who's 1969 Woodstock as a watershed event in the Who's live career: [ Click to listen if you have a backstage pass] "It was about the most important single concert that we ever did. It was more important than Monterey, much more important than our first show in New York, much more important than anything that followed."

A new website, woodstock.com, is currently being developed for information on the shows.

Woodstock 2009 being planned for August

This August marks the 40th anniversary of Woodstock, and festival producer Michael Lang is celebrating by having Woodstock '09

    Matt Kappel

Michael Lang is planning Woodstock ‘09 for August in order to celebrate the original festival’s 40th anniversary. Lang is planning for the anniversary to take place in two different locations, New York and Germany. Both locations will hold a two-day festival for free, according to TheRockRadio.com.

The New York festival is scheduled for August 15-August 16, 2009, which are the anniversary dates of the original Woodstock. The exact location of the New York festival has not been determined yet. The Germany dates are scheduled for August 22-23rd at abandoned airport.

The festival does not have a lineup or any bands signed on to perform. According to Rollingstone.com, festival organizers are hoping original Woodstock bands would perform at Woodstock 2009. Bands that have been tossed around are The Who, Santana and The Dead. Rolling Stone also reported that the official Woodstock Web site is under construction.

Lang is credited as a co-creator of Woodstock and played an integral part in both Woodstock ’94 and Woodstock ’99. Lang will be quite busy preparing a Woodstock ’09 after the infamous bonfires, rowdy crowds and unruly nature of Woodstock ’99. Many attributed the raucous crowd at Woodstock ’99 to bands egging them on, along with the aggressive nature of the music that was performed.

they should definitely avoid scheduling as many shitty bands this time

I'm not advocating all hippie type bands, but I don't see the point of doing it and calling it Woodstock if it doesn't at least semi emulate the original spirit of the festival

otherwise, it's just another random festival and it could be held anywhere, at any time, not on the 40th anniversary
