Neither am I, Andrew, I just felt a lot of experimental pop meets Brian Wilson sort of thing when I first listened to MPP, thought that kinda sounded like what was being described.
I'll just have to listen in the morning.
I just downloaded this tonight. So far I am completely smitten. I'm glad I'm going to Bonnaroo.
Oh shit, they're at Bonnaroo? Awesome, even more incentive now.
Foreign Born did indeed open. That show was great. I also saw them at UCLA the day after the Troubadour show (I booked that one, boiiiiiiiiii). They were also great at Coachella and Pitchfork, but their best set that I've seen was at the Disney Concert Hall. The place was in awe afterwards. It was truly incredible.
I saw them with Deerhunter at Neumos in Seattle... 2007.
And Panda Bear is a better drummer than Chris will ever be, but that's not worth debating... Neither is any discussion of musical skill. Both bands admire the other, but they are not really comparable.
Yes, I was aware of Grizzly Bear at Roo. I've been bouncing back btwn work stations and this thread and must have skipped over the post that identified this as a Grizzly Bear album. Veckatimest was an unfamiliar word, just assumed it was another band everyone liked of which I'd never heard...
Either way, I've been meaning to get into GB for a while, several friends have recommended them. Guess it'll happen now.
I can't explain why, but this album gives me the feeling of being suspended in water. Holy shit, was that pretentious. Anyways, this is an incredible album. Grizzly Bear have hit upon an incredibly distinctive sound here, and they explore it over the course of the album, which is not something we get the privilege to experience that often. I love this album so much.

I'm giving these guys another chance. Yellow House didn't really click, and I don't have a reason to hate these guys. When it finishes downloading I'll give you guys my first impressions.
Josh:
Those are both off their last album. I haven't heard the new one yet (didn't even know there was a new one until now because I don't pay attention to anything any more), but those two songs are a good starting point.
This album is fan-fucking-tastic. I'm happy to hear that my 3 favorite live songs they've done recently (Two Weeks, Fine For Now and While You Wait for the Others)
I should've gotten tickets for their BAM show.
Seeing them live was pretty much it for me. After that, each song off Yellow House sounded bigger and better. I recommend a live viewing to all who have foolishly not seen them yet. I changed my stance on the Silverback vs. Grizzly debate because I saw Grizzly Bear in Philly and the doc Grizzlyman in the same week. Gabe ws so pissed. He almost didn't let me back on the team.
If I had to coose between MPP and Veckatimest right now, I wouldn't be able to.
grizzly bear killed the warlock with woodwinds in the gobi. true story.
Lick an orange, it tastes like an orange. Lick a pineapple, it tastes like a pineapple. Go ahead, try it. Try some more. The strawberries taste like strawberries. The snozzberries taste like snozzberries! We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams. Come along, come along.
Can I get a link please.
it's at demonoid.

Rhythm is a dancer.
i like what i hear, but i'm waiting for a higher quality leak so that i can really delve into this. so much texture to sink into.
Sometimes the official message boards of music festivals don't like illegal music distribution going on.
