Gunz...I went to Death Valley in the last weekend of March a few years back, and it was amazing. Perfect weather, flowers galore and some stunning scenery.

Definitely plan well though, as someone said above, there are plenty of places to get lost and die. Death Valley is aptly named. Take lots of water and familiarize yourself with the trails and your surroundings, it's easy to get a little disoriented in certain spots.

drove up to Calabasas and did this one yesterday. Steep accent hiking with rock climbing formations to mix it up. Topped the day off with a beer on the beach in Malibu and then a slice of Joe's Pizza in Santa Monica after driving down PCH. Lovely day, actually.

did Black Star Canyon Falls, sans falls, yesterday. Dryer than a uninterested you-know-what. Pussy. Took the dirt road up the mountain, then went by the two metal poles down to the top of where the waterfall is supposed to be. Excellent boulders in the ravine for climbing.

Any Zonians recommend hikes in Phoenix/Scottdale area? Be there in mid-December for a weekend. Guess there is Camelback, Tom's Thumb?

It was about as good as it gets in Idyllwild yesterday. Simply spectacular day. Very fun moderate trail: South Ridge to Tahquitz Peak fire lookout. Need to get back in shape, though; only an 8.2 mile out-and-back and 2000ft elevation gain, but I am definitely feeling it today.

My buddy and I went hiking around the Marin Headlands and found some underground bunkers that were not sealed up. Had to climb through deep brush but it was worth it... I'll post up the photos later.

Taquitz is a great over-night hike. Although, right now, it'd probably be too cold to spend the night out there without a fire.

We were out in Black Star around the same time, lehorne.

Everything is getting cold right now. Water is not that bad in a 3/2 wetsuit though. Palm Springs at a 68 high.

Another fine, fine Sunday in Idyllwild. Deer Springs Trail to Suicide Rock. 7 mile out-and-back. Moderate. LOVE hiking in the snow! Beautiful way to bring in the New Year. WHOO-HOO!

High 20's/low 30's. No wind. Snowfall at times, sun at others. Perfect.

Off to Arches/Canyonlands for a hike-o-rama in a few days. Our girls fly in tomorrow (haven't seen them in 20 months), family-get together on Sunday, on the road Monday. So excited. Can't wait!

awesome. Have a goal of doing the White Rim Trail in Canyonlands on motorcycles.

Did Mt. Zion past Santa Anita Ave in Arcadia this past weekend. Nice lil loop hike at about eleven miles total. Got to the peak and there was an overweight, shirtless mexican guy laying on the ground snuggling with his girlfriend. Talk about anti-climactic.

Fantastic trip (sorry for the uber large pics --- too lazy to resize them right now):

View of Canyonlands from Dead Horse Point SP:

After Utah, headed to SF, and then to Mendocino, where we did some hiking in Van Damme SP and Russian Gulch SP. Red rocks and desert snow to tall trees and crashing sea. What a contrast. It's been a good couple of weeks. Now, back to reality.

not really much of a hike per se (like a three mile loop), but enjoyed exploring Vasquez Rocks a half hour or so north of LA. Some great climbing. Guess a bunch of tv shows and movies were filmed there including Outer Limits. Star Trek, and A Single Man. Get there early as the car park fills up by midday.

Anyone done the Devil's Punchbowl seven miler in Pearblossom? That's on the cards for next weekend.

my business partner's friend's daughter has been missing for three days out near the Holy Jim canyon. His theory is that her and the boyfriend may have gone off trail to have intercourse and then lost their direction. I think they may have been abducted, but I've also seen a lot of Criminal Minds episodes.

they found the girl hanging off a cliff screaming or some shit. Retards.

Anyway, did the Devil's Punchbowl today to a B+ rating. Some great rock climbing near the parking lot gave it an extra grade nudge.
