Thread: Wilco question

  1. #1

    Default Wilco question

I have yankee hotel foxtrot on my ipod which i love...but I know that originally wilco didn't have the experimentation that is on YHF. My question was YHF the first album that they started putting experimentation in addition to their country/southern vibe....so pretty much which albums have that and which just have that straight country/southern vibe without it.

Yeah, A Ghost is Born is...weird. But good. Summerteeth is a deviation from the country sound as well, but it's not particularly experimental. Really good though.

A.M. will have the most alt. country sound to it. It's the first Wilco album. Summerteeth is probably the first album where they started experimenting a lot with sounds and feedback and stuff. Summerteeth is closer to an alt rock sound as you will find. If you like YHF then Summerteeth and A Ghost is Born are your best bets. If you want more of the indie / alt country sound then AM and Being There are the ones to get. The band has evolved nicely. I found the most recent album Sky Blue Sky to be a bit boring but live those songs really get jazzy and come alive. Nels Cline has brought this band to another level live.

Dammit! I have been hoping it would be out by March or April. Of course, it's already March now, I realize. But I was really thinking it would be out this Spring. I'm getting impatient for this. I have a feeling it's going to be especially great for me, I don't know why.

Hopefully this means a full summer tour for Wilco.

Do you guys think Wilco could take on the Hollywood Bowl?

I was wondering about that myself. I think they could. They're an outdoor kind of band, and they have a pretty big following. Can you imagine if they did a show with the LA Phil?

Ashes of American Flags, Wilco's first live concert film on DVD is now available for pre-order HERE. Filmed during the band's March '08 tour, it includes footage from Cain's Ballroom in Tulsa, Tipitina's in New Orleans, The Mobile Civic Center in Mobile, the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville and the 9:30 Club in Washington DC. Our friends Brendan Canty and Christoph Green at Trixie Films directed & produced (Sunken Treasure, Burn to Shine, etc.) and we think it's a pretty damned good piece of work. Since April 18 is a ways off yet, we'll give you at least a bit of immediate gratification upon ordering with an instantaneously available downloadable version of Monday (playable on your computers, ipods, etc.). You can check out the trailer HERE. And you can catch a screening of the film in a CITY near you.

The trailer for it looks fantastic. I was looking at where the footage is from and I was shocked that none of it was from the Winter Residency. I could swear one of the clips I saw looked exactly like The Riviera in Chicago. Odd. I guess it was just similar theater and they also must have transported that rug as part of their stage setup through the tour, it was a throw rug but huge and 70's ish on the floor of the stage.

    Thanks for the information.

I really, really wish that they were playing Coachella again. It's too bad we don't have any sub-headliner openings. Oh, wait...

Hey! I was laughing at that too! That's a coincidence. It really is a funny fucking solo. And he was on fire that afternoon.

That was the very last song I watched live at OSL... I had to catch my 9:00 flight in Oakland. (I walked out as they played Via Chicago and California Stars though.) Great ending to the weekend.

You could spend many hours collecting different recordings of this song and never get the same solo twice.

Man, and I was on the bar all day for BSS... I was planning on sticking around for Wilco, but there was a 45 minute wait and I had to piss like a racehorse, I just had to leave. It was hard to do but I just couldn't stay any longer up there.

I still kinda regret that decision though. I hope I get to see them from the front row sometime this year. Maybe at Bonnaroo.

I saw him here w/Glenn Kotchke a year or two ago in a little 300cap club. He played for ~45mins just by himself then Glenn played then they played a set together.

    NUTS.

I had plans to go, but the other person flaked at the last minute, so I missed the show. They were my #1 reason to go, and yes, this song is phenomenal. Thanks for posting (sighs).
