I would think I could come up with my own decision if I like someone or want to see a band. I never understand why people dont just discover instead of being guided all the time...its much more fun that way.

What do you mean?
As much as I'd like to form my own opinion on all the music ever made, I have stuff to get done today. It helps to narrow down the field a bit so I won't spend more of my life listening to Nickelback than I absolutely positively have to.
I don't think I've ever ask anyone if I should like a band but I do ask for album suggestions or band suggestions. It really doesn't matter what anyone says, I'm pretty sure people don't listen to music they don't like.
It's fine to take tips and suggetions from people but in general people really need to form their own opinions and discover their own way when it comes to music.
Plus it's weak minded and sheepish to be such a follower.
I can listen to a band for years and play it for people and they will tell me how much the artist in question sucks.
Suddenly when the artist is on the radio, tv., internet, charts, etc. The person suddenly has a reversal and loves it.
Should I like you?
Here smell this, it smells like shit...
Music is like most things-there is so much out there -how do you find it all?If friends know your taste in music you can help each other discover new bands > Its just one more source of info.
