There aren't very many taxis. Most people either camp on site or drive back to their hotel.

On top of which, trying to get out of the parking lots along with thousands of other people is generally such a mess that I wouldn't want to try it drunk. There's pretty much nothing in the way of public transport either, too hard for the cabs to get in while everyone is trying to get out. If you're not camping, just have whoever is driving stop drinking and start sobering before the last headliner takes the stage.

I've never actually wanted to drink that much at Coachella anyway, the heat and dehydration has made me feel like crap every time I've tried. Your mileage may vary, but if you have a group of people with you, likely someone will be sober enough to drive.

there is an area where taxis wait, but it is true, there aren't that many of them. One night a couple years ago, we waited forever, then decided to walk halfway back, at which point we randomly found an off duty cab that we somehow talked into taking us back...it wasn't the most fun part of Coachella

they've gotten better about cabs. Last year I caught a cab in 2 minutes. There's a huge line of cabs now at the drop off spot.

Very slowly. Take in the sights one last time that final night. Take lots of deep breaths. Observe all of the scandals people have lost at random places on the ground. Get a smoothie to go. Enjoy the traffic, it is drawing out the leaving process.

Then count the days til 2010's version.

The nights are cool. Walking an hour is doable. The only hotels within an hour's walk are in Indio. There were a lot of taxis last year. Do not drink and drive.

CAMP onsite, walking an hour after being at Coachella all day. You will have much better time walking to your campsite then trying to walk any distance.
