New Sword record this month!
Not as heavy, but I think it sounds great. Really surprised there isn't a leak.
Edit:
I never would have guessed it, but metal is making me excited about music again. This is good.

I think they are a bit more mature than on Gods of the Earth, but they are certainly leaning in a more accessible direction which some may find boring. I really dont enjoy being yelled at, so I like it.
Here are some song previews. This thing is going to fucking rule.
I like his voice. Reminds me very slightly of Ozzy back in the day, just not cheesy.
I saw the Sword open for Mastodon during the Blood Mountain tour in 2006 and they were really great. They were just touring their first album at the time. i'd like to see them again.
Sort of related, I'm going to be really bummed out if Mastodon plays Crack The Skye AGAIN when i see them in October. they have too much other great stuff.

That is what I would expect, considering it's called the Black Diamond Skye tour or whatever it is. When I saw them here back in May they played it, and then encored with like 8 older tracks. It was awesome. Considering they are the first opening band I doubt you would get any old stuff.
Yeah, fuck. i was considering going to that headlining tour, but even with the prospect of older stuff afterward, i had too recently seen CTS live twice to want to sit through it again.
i've had the pleasure of seeing them tour for each of their previous albums (save for the pre-Remission stuff) and it all wails so fucking hard live.

See I could watch that Crack the Skye show everyday for a couple weeks and not get tired of it. I think that record is amazing.
I think if I had gotten into mastodon because of that album I might feel the same way. I think it's great, and i think the live show is phenomenal. But i've been a fan since Remission, I think Leviathan is still their masterpiece, and i've seen them play so many great shows with the older material that it's not that i don't like CTS live but more that I'm sad i'm missing all these other great songs.

That sucks. I had pit at the Wiltern and didn't have any of that. Also, Mastodon closed our date.

Déjà vu?
I think the tour name is nothing more than a portmanteau word and would surprised if it denotes another Crack The Skye set, but if Mastodon is only on for an hour it's plausible. Hopefully that's not the case, I'd like to hear more Leviathan if anything.
SLEEP is playing here sep 11 but it's sold out unless you get a wristband for MFNW.
which is $65 and permits access to a bunch of other stuff but still
Yay SLEEP at FYF for $20!

next month:
red fang / baroness
sleep / scott kelly / yob.
recently got into yob and they are unreal.
slayer killed it on fallon
i really like a lot of the new album, this song and several others are reign in blood par material, but the 'death magnetic' style production makes it unlistenable to me
Thanks a ton for this post. The only tracks I'd heard so far from the upcoming were Tres Brujas and Arrows in the Dark. I've caught these guys 4 times since 06 and they kill it live every single time. Luckily, they tend to play DC quite a bit. They have a couple nice preorder packages at www.swordofdoom.com. The vinyl package comes with a limited run purple LP with the first 500 signed. Nice collectors item.

I know right? I have a feeling this one will be pretty great though.
Fuck ACL. On the other main stage, ON THE SAME FUCKING DAY the order goes Black Keys, Spoon, The Strokes. Why the fuck were they put on a secondary stage before a shit band? They couldn't have been worked into a similar time slot on the same day on the better stage? Either way the schedule can still work out to be The Black Keys -> The Sword -> Spoon -> The Strokes, full sets too. This will probably be the only day I attend if I'm not in SF for Strictly Bluegrass.
