This is from an interview with them I read today.

Q: What are Electric Wizard’s tour plans for 2014? Do you have any North American tour plans? Come to Vancouver, we have the best buds in the world!!

A: In Europe and the UK we are doing a bunch of festivals, then we will probably do a few select UK dates outside London. But yeah, a North American tour is planned for the end of the year and then maybe South America in the new year. Playing Canada is difficult..we hope to play there, but last time Mark & I were refused entry (eventually we went over another bridge in a taxi pretending to be tourists..haha)…but of course, bud is an important incentive.

New Mastodon song. Not sure how I feel about it. It's nowhere near as heavy as some of their earlier stuff. After the first listen I'm not crazy about the vocals/chorus.

I am finally starting to the play catch up. The new Triptykon is indeed fucking great. Coffinworm's IV.I.VIII was a recommendation by Nathan I believe, and it's an excellent black metal album. And if you have any passing interest in power/prog metal, Amoral's Fallen Leaves & Dead Sparrows is really good, and heavier than most examples of the genre.

The Nux Vomica record is so, so fucking good. It's funny they are based in Portland because halfway through the first song I had to go search and see if it featured any members from His Hero is Gone or Tragedy. It's certainly a different kind of band in its longevity and how sludgy it ism but it features very similar guitar tones and these soring melodic riffs that are extremely appealing to me. I think they are probably just inspired by these older bands, but in an extremely good way. This became one of my favorite albums of the year quickly.

I also really like the Thou and The Body records, and i had not yet heard an album from either band. I realize that this is an atypical release from The Body in that it is a joint effort with The Haxon Cloak. it is really good though.

Definitely check out some of the Body's earlier work. Crazy shit. I kind of like that Thou record, it's just a bit much to take in for its entire length. It gets to be a bit plodding over the course of 75 minutes. So many albums released these days exceed the hour mark and very rarely do I feel engaged for that amount of time by them.

Thou and The Body are actually putting out a collaborative EP soon as well. It's already making the rounds, and it sounds pretty damn good. Thou kind of takes the lead, but the Body adds their trademark insanity. I'd recommend it.

I saw Thou on Tuesday and it was pretty rad. Super short set though, they only played for 30 minutes. I didn't like that. Dangers opened up, and the crowd got straight nasty. Some guy hopped on another dudes shoulders, and they both charged into the crowd with four arms swinging. Good times.

I find it amazing that a band would release a single album that is the equivalent of two and a half sets in their live show.

Even moreso that said band writes and records so constantly that, given those set lengths, they'd likely never play a majority of their material live.

Insomnium's Shadows of the Dying Sun is really fucking good if you like epic European melodic death metal.

EDIT: I've listened to this twice in a row already and am am going to listen to it again. This might be one of my favorite albums of the year of any genre. I need to check out their earlier work.

Posted in the hardcore thread, but that seems to get glossed over. I had stayed away from Man is the Bastard/Bastard Noise because of their terrible fan base. I was missing out. This is some really great stuff. Anyone else dig this sort of stuff?

I really want Mastodon's newest album on vinyl. That artwork is gorgeous and it's a double sided 4 panel piece too. But Jesus Christ, $70 is way too much.

Mastodon were great as always. Played for about an hour 40. Gojira killed it. Fuck Kveltertak. That band is some of the worst shit I have ever heard.
