But will they actually tour the US?

That's all I care about at this point.

Doubtful. I think they have visa troubles. It also probably isn't worth it for them. They can tour clubs over here or festivals overseas.

Fluisteraars' album Droors is a great piece of progressive black metal. They play in a style not dissimilar from Agalloch or early Alcest, full of memorable riffs and constant progression. Each of the three songs is a total killer. I can't recommend this highly enough, and it's currently streaming, so check it out.

So I was browsing ?'s list of the "Top 150 Black Metal albums (as voted by metal archives)" and I decided to put a playlist together if anyone is interested. I've been on a black metal kick lately so I've been looking for more stuff to discover. They didn't have everything which was disappointing but I was able to find 104 out of the 150. Thanks! I was trying to listen to To Mega Therion by Celtic Frost not too long ago and was disappointed to find that it wasn't on Spotify. That album is so damn good and dark. If you don't know Celtic Frost, I think you'd dig 'em.

Also, that Weakling record is goddamn excellent. They were a Bay Area group who kind of kickstarted the US black metal scene in the 2000s.

When was this list made? They have one of the best Agalloch albums on there, but my favorite is Marrow of the Spirit from 2010. Same with the Wolves in the Throne Room, where their latest album is the best thing they've done.

I've been listening to Cannibal Corpse's Torture in my car all week. It's the first full album I've heard by them (thanks library). I love the manic energy, this is the kind of music I'd play to get amped up before playing onstage. Some of the lyrics are so grotesque they're funny ("guts I wear to celebrate").

I'm seeing Ghost B.C. in April, I listened to the second album of theirs, not as good as the first. That Amadeus-inspired album cover is awesome though.
We're here to play some Mississippi Delta Blues. We're in a horrible depression, and I gotta admit - we're starting to like it.

Ulver just cancelled MDF and all other shows because of health concerns. This is the cherry on top of a shitty 2 week sundae. Hopefully they get well soon. Damn this sucks. They were my main reason for going this year.

Comments vocalist Mike IX Williams, “I have to say I don’t believe we’ve lost nary a step in the creation of this album and we think these newer songs are a killer combination of classic EYEHATEGOD mixed along with our best production, mixing, engineering and songwriting in thirteen years. The main and total tragic break in the chain, was obviously last year’s death of our great friend and drummer Joey LaCaze. However, his original drum tracks made it onto the final master recordings and we’re fucking psyched about that… As for working with Housecore, it was a no-brainer. We’ve always been a family, and will always remain a family.”

Adds Housecore founder Philip H. Anselmo, “Being a part of the new EHG record is a dream come true. I’ve known, supported and loved the guys for almost as long as I’ve been playing music myself, and it is our pleasure here at The Housecore Records Compound to have ‘em aboard. And I gotta mention, having heard the new record, this is the EYEHATEGOD record every true fan has been waiting for…. Hail!”

I saw Exmortus play to about 25 people a couple nights ago and it was amazing, like really, really amazing. I'm not really well versed on this kind of metal. What else should I check out?

Nice! They were announced as the replacement for Ulver at Deathfest. That still doesn't take away the sting, but it helps. When they played in 2012 they busted out a lot of old songs some of which they had never played live before. It was a great set, and I'm sure they will try to top it.

I saw Russian Circles, Helms Alee and KEN Mode last weekend. All of the bands were good, but Russian Circles in particular were amazing, they were also one of the loudest bands I've ever heard live.

I also saw the Russian Circles tour, and just want to echo everyone's sentiments about how awesome it was. Helms Alee was great, they were really exciting to watch.

Higher quality version of the new Metallica:

Not awful, I do really dig the section around 5:20. The lyrics are cheesy though and the song as a whole is too repetitive, which is to be expected at this point. Death Magnetic Part 2 for their new album isn't the worst thing they can do I guess.

Listened to the Nux Vomica s/t record based on the pitchfork review. Damn if it isn't a great listen. Three tracks that cover most modern metal genres in a way that doesn't end up being a mess. Go read the review to get a better idea and have a listen.

I've listened to the Nux Vomica album three times now, and it just kills. So many great riffs, the vocals are intense, ugly and nuanced enough to work the whole time, and each song has a powerful arc to it. They build to some great climaxes and really combine styles well.

The Body and Thou both have killer albums out this year. Apparently they also recorded a collaborative EP together, and it's just fucking excellent. They combine styles, but Thou tends to take the lead most of the time, with their denser and more muscular sound. I really liked the release on first listen.
