I'm probably the only person in the world listening to Megadeth's 'Rust In Peace' in a Steve Winwood t-shirt right now. Maybe ever. Either way, it had been way too long. This record is perfect.

Dunno, I definitely prefer Greg over the first vocalist. He's a really down-to-earth dude as well as a great singer.

What does everyone think of the new Kvelertak album? A friend of mine tore it a new one after hearing half of it, so I'm wondering if that's the general consensus.

I'm loving the new Kvelertak. Sonically it keeps bringing Fucked Up to mind for me rather than the 70s rock/metal acts that most reviewers seem to be mentioning.

Yeah, I'm digging it, too. It's not a 10 like their self-titled debut was, but I feel like that's the reason so many people are disappointed over it. I guess everyone was expecting something just as good if not better!

I need to check it out. The first album sounded like a mix of Turbonegro and Hellacopters to me.

I am indifferent on it. As far as DEP goes. I like Greg, and really don't understand how someone can like Patton and not him. The dude sounds like he is just imitating Patton most the time, and I mean that in the best possible way.

The Ocean's Palagial is a fucking beast of an instrumental progressive/post-metal album. So heavy and dense.

Rip Jeff, your music never dies.

Slayer is devastated to inform that their bandmate and brother, Jeff Hanneman, passed away at about 11AM this morning near his Southern California home. Hanneman was in an area hospital when he suffered liver failure. He is survived by his wife Kathy, his sister Kathy and his brothers Michael and Larry, and will be sorely missed.

Pull a Kiss. Kerry has already said he has no problem touring without Jeff, but Jeff wrote all the amazing riffs that made that band what it is. Really wish I could go to that show tonight.

Slayer's been going through a lot of drama as of late. Replacing Hanneman, Lombardo quitting...things are not going well for Slayer.

The show last night will be in my top 5 shows of the year. It was that good. I don't regret coming home after 3am and not getting any sleep this week. These Red Bull shows are going to kill me for the next few weeks I'll post some O'Malley videos later!

I kind of figured they'd go on and tour without him, but as far as new material goes, I just think it would be weird to hear a Hanneman-less Slayer album.

So, who is the best metal band currently functioning? You can take into account current releases, tours, legacy, membership change, whatever?

As much as I want to say Royal Thunder, Pallbearer, Sunn O))), Mastodon or even Inter Arma after that incredible release, I've gotta go Baroness.

I can't find it on youtube anymore, but Dragged Into Sunlight did a track with Gnaw Their Tongues that is absolutely brutal. I have the mp3 of it and can upload it if you want. It is seriously one of the best tracks I've heard this year. Highly recommended if you haven't heard it.

    That sounds rad Nathan

There are a lot of great still functioning metal bands with great legacies and still putting out good releases.

    Boris
    Darkthrone
    Autopsy
    Melvins
    Sunn O)))
    Mastodon
    Enslaved
    Neurosis
    Deathspell Omega

The list goes on and on, but I would have to say Boris. They are constantly pushing the limits and blurring the lines of what is and isn't metal. They are innovators which I find to be a really important quality. I probably wouldn't have said this a month ago, but after seeing them play Flood I remembered everything that made me love this band in the first place.

Rip Jeff. Had the opportunity to see slayer twice but fucked that up. Got to see Dio perform with sabbath three times before he passed so I get to live with that. And shit, putting a finger on the best metal band ever is difficult! So many sub genres and individual band members to consider

I'm sure the fans that will be in attendance will throw bibles at the protesters, which might get the point across

Slayer fans should show up with similarly worded signs and join in with them. And then bust out a bunch of boomboxes and blast Angel of Death.
