Love the fact that Ghost is the token metal band this year.
In years past the metal band made sense as a big-hype band with some level of attention. I can't wait to see the response to Ghost's live show, with Papa Emeritus and all the ghouls swarming the stage singing about satan. That in and of itself makes me want to be at Coachella this year. I'm listening to the album now and can't help but imagine the shock they're going to cause.
they are so much fun, even in the middle of the day. i caught them at orion last year and it was a blast. the crowd loved them.

I hadn't seen Phil in 10 years, but god damn if Down didn't perform one of the best sets I have ever seen from him. He has outgrown the annoying football metal machismo bullshit and has embraced his place a a huge fucking metal nerd, the entire night he sang praise of bands like Portal, Deathspell Omega, and The Melvins. If you enjoy NOLA you will most likely enjoy the new album and this tour, most of it is based around those 2 albums which are no doubt their best. Everyone sounds perfect, gives forth a ton of energy, and can out play most people half their age. I highly recommend this show, go if you like stoner/doom and Phil's vocals.
That is awesome to hear! I heard so many stories about him being shit-faced drunk during Superjoint Ritual shows and basically ready to fall down on his face and barely making it through songs.

Maybe this should go here, maybe the Default thread. Anyway, this dude is in my local scene, he wrote an article for Decibel. It's amazing and inspiring, in my opinion. If you're a music fan, I truly think you'll enjoy it. And he's right, Floor was amazing at his benefit. http://www.decibelmagazine.com/diary...-statts-story/
Ghost has changed their name to Ghost B.C. in the US (and only the US) due to lawyers.
Makes me tempted to do the same. This is the same shit that happened with Bison B.C. née Bison. Why is B.C. such a popular appendage to metal bands whose names run afoul of other bands names?

I just saw the lineup for Hellfest in France. If you look past the headliners this festival is fucking stacked. Has anyone here been before? I think I might try and do this.

GAH i want to go to this one day so badly! When Sinkbutt was in L.A. recently we had a pretty long talk about how weird the line up it, but when you get into the smaller stages it's fucking amazing.
EDIT: damn, this year, just the Altar, Temple, and Valley stages are enough for an amazing festival all 3 days and would have a lot of conflicts just among themselves.

I'm listening to Worm Ouroboros - Come the Thaw right now. It's not really metal except in the most philosophical of senses (very dark, dirging music with ominous tones) but it's a great slow burn of an album. Clean female vocals and chiming guitars are the most common elements, but it gets explosive at times to great effect. I'd highly recommend it.
I enjoy that this is where the name comes from:
"The Worm Ouroboros is a heroic high fantasy novel by Eric Rücker Eddison, first published in 1922. The book describes the protracted war between the domineering King Gorice of Witchland and the Lords of Demonland in an imaginary world that appears mainly medieval and partly reminiscent of Norse sagas. The work is slightly related to Eddison's later Zimiamvian Trilogy, and collectively they are sometimes referred to as the Zimiamvian series."

Fuckin' ridiculous.
The new Nails album, Abandon All Life, leaked. It's 17 minutes of pure grind brutality. There are two longer tracks (assumedly they'll close out each side of vinyl) that slow down the riffs some and provide room to breathe. The 8 blasts are impressively ugly, but these two songs are great and the reason to listen to the album. Together, they make up over half of the play time.
