Oh nice, is that new? And yes, Orange Goblin would most certainly be classified as stoner rock or stoner metal.

In fact, The Big Black is one of my favorite stoner rock albums ever

And while I'm talking about stoner rock, I'll throw El Caco's The Search into the mix

Yeah, first release in 5 years. It's a scene release so if you search for: "Orange_Goblin-A_Eulogy_For_The_Damned-2012-MTD", you can find it.

Thanks for the suggestions. I tend to go for most stoner rock...due to the sludgy guitars and the absence of cookie-monster vocals (which ruins so many metal songs for me).

El Caco is a little more "rock" than metal, but have that heavy '70s guitar sound. They were part of a great Swedish movement of stoney retro-style rock that i found extremely appealing, along with Hellacopters and Backyard Babies.

Check these out to start with:

Hellacopters - By The Grace Of God

Backyard Babies - Making Enemies Is Good

Yeah, and I'd also suggest Alabama Thunderpussy, Fu Manchu (which I suspect Drew already listens to), Brant Bjork's post-Kyuss and Fu Manchu solo projects (Brant Bjork, Brant Bjork & The Bros, Che), and all of John Garcia's post Kyuss projects are worth checking out - Hermano, Slo Burn, and Unida

Huge Melvins fan....been listening/seeing them since forever. Thought you knew that. But, I don't lump them into the stoner rock category. They kind of sit by themselves with me. Have listened to Baroness (when they played Coachella...they didn't stick for some reason). But, I'm really diggin' the OG.

My stoner rock faves are: Fu Manchu, Monster Magnet (their old shit), Kyuss and, of course, Queens.

After Queens, these guys are my shit. Fucking love them so damn much. Boogie Van is my jam!

Will check out Alabama Thunderpussy...if for no other reason than I want that band name on my mp3 player.

Sleep only has 2, most would suggest Jeruselem or Dopesmoker or whatever it is called, I would say Holy Mountain

The best place to start with Electric Wizard is Dopethrone

Drew, listen to St. Vitus - Born Too Late. Like, yesterday. You'll love it. They were the token metal band on SST in the early 80s, and they did a great stoner metal cover of Thirsty and Miserable.

I didn't mostly because I think the vocals would not be to Drew's liking. But in general, YES.

Cool...used to listen to a lot of SST bands back in the 80's. Missed these guys, I think.

Man, lots of homework. Cheers. Found a nice Woodenhead vinyl transfer of Dopethrone. His rips are always nice. Still need starting points for AL Pussy and Dead Meadow, please.

What's everyone's favorite Neurosis album? I've only heard a song here or there, but felt oddly inspired to pick up one of their records today, so I grabbed Enemy of the Sun.

I never really got into their early hardcore/crust stuff, Enemy of the Sun is when their sound started evolving to the awesomeness it is today, so it is probably the best place to start.

I've got the record, but thanks. The S/T is good, but Born Too Late is their masterpiece.

HOLY SHIT. If they get better after this one, I can't wait to hear the rest of the stuff. This album is blowing my mind. So heavy and atmospheric at once.

Loving this. Wish I could find it in vinyl. I suspect the "muddy" mastering is intentional, but I'm sure it would pop properly with the vinyl. But, this is really nice psych, stoner stuff...right in my wheelhouse. Cheers.

Nice. Check out their self-titled debut too if you get a chance "beyond the fields we know" is such a killer track from that album.

Ooh man, you really can't go wrong with any of them. I think I'm slightly partial to Oceanic, but Panopticon and Wavering Radiant are excellent as well. If you like them at their sludgiest, the Mosquito Control EP slays.
