Eh I hate the cover, it seems like it's trying to capatalize on the creppy art nouvea album art trend and fails horribly. That's just me though.

I finally picked up that Tombs record and holy cow! Only on side B and this will probably be on top of my list if the second disc is as good. Also Thou is amazing but are oversatturating the market, it seems every 4 months there is a new album or split.

It's been there from the beginning.. the weak Britpop headliners Friday; the rumors that DP was gonna play, that it was a done deal, then all of a sudden 'oops, no, not gonna happen'; and now the new album. It's all so obvious.

I agree that that cover is terrible.

And I was just re-listening to PATH OF TOTALITY yesterday and it really is so fucking good. One of the best heavy albums I've heard in years.

Recommend me some good Napalm Death and Mayhem records! I'm familiar with both bands, but haven't dug very deep, and they both have big discographies (especially Napalm Death)

Anyways, my favorite metal album this year is Mamaleek Kurdaitcha. Some tracks are more ambient noise ala Nahvair, but there's some amazing tracks that are very melodic and less dense. I really haven't heard anything like this before.

I didn't listen to every album on every year end list, but here is a list of the bands I think put out the best albums this year. I'm not giving any write ups this year as I'm to lazy to even list album names.

    21. Mastodon
    20. Trap Them
    19. Wolves In The Throne Room
    18. Rwake
    17. Amebix
    16. Craft
    15. Atlas Moth
    14. Circle of Ouroborus
    13. Absu
    12. SubRosa
    11. Thou
    10. Krallice
    9. Ash Borer
    8. 40 Watt Sum
    7. Barghest
    6. Altar of Plagues
    5. Blood Ceremony
    4. Tombs
    3. Peste Noire
    2. Yen Pox
    1. Batillus

The reason I put 21 instead of an even twenty is because I loved the top two records almost equally and are tied to me, but if push came to shove Batillus was my favorite. Also I figured I would get endless shit for leaving off Mastodon.

Blood Lust by Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats is a great album. Yep, it is black sabbath worship, but it rules.

It's okay, I'm as big a Mastodon fan as anyone else, but I agree their latest is nowhere near their best effort.

Good list - there's plenty on there I need to seek out.

Yeah, i would call myself a rabid Mastodon fan but the new one is extremely underwhelming to me.

Really loved Blood Ceremony's Living with the Ancients too. I just started checking them out since they are touring with Ghost. Also, Thank you for opening my eyes to Batillus last time you were here. They are incredible!

Ok so I didn't realize the Botanist and Ensorcelor records were from this year so I had to revise my top 10. Then I figured I would add a couple more of the mainstream bands all you hipsters are too good for and made it an even 25.

What you guys think of the new Lamb of God cd? Id say its pretty fuckin good. As good as Wrath, with vocal elements of New American Gospel and guitar riffs straight out of As the Palaces Burn/Ashes of the Wake.

Check it out, the song Undertow is blowing my mind right now.

Can we get one metal band on Sunday? It doesn't even have to be a big name, Black Math Horseman or Grayceon would be ideal.

No shit. Granted there is a lot of punk and heavier stuff on the lineup, but this would be the second year in a row they snubbed metal.

Found Black Sabbath's "Technical Ecstacy" (last record with Ozzy) at the record store for cheap and even though I hated this record as a kid I am really digging it now. It's not really metal and I assume that's why it was universally panned, but this record has some of the bands best grooves. I kinda am getting excited about the new record so long as Ozzy isn't doing the writing, but this record is supposedly them at their worst (with Ozzy) and it still rocks. Here's hoping...
