That's great to hear, really looking forward to seeing them (when they tour) next summer. Did they play any older stuff?
Boris was beyond amazing....
The drummer... His kit was beautiful, it was a florescent pink plexiglass material with a gong in the back which was an incredibly effective tool for getting the crowd riled up. The Drummer was a really interesting performer, he kept doing these classic moves you'd see from American 80s hair bands, while making brief war cries into his "Britney Spears" head mic. I was very impressed.
Wata, oh Wata Wata. She has a beautiful singing voice, but didn't shred as much as anticipated. She seems so polite and dainty while shredding where she did though. Super Cute!
The other Guitarist/Bassist, firstly has a crazy instrument which he played the shit out of. He would go back and fourth playing bass and guitar in some songs.
They have this newer song called Aileron which literally put me in a trance. Their slower droney stuff was epic. They played most of that towards the end, some of their pop-y songs in the beginning and the whole set was peppered with some crazy, heavy shit. Not too sure of the names of any other songs, I still fairly new to their material. I will say this about that though, I'll be at the next show.
Also, do they normally play with 4 people? I thought this was a 3-person band?
I've seen them play quite a few times and it has always been 3. Bummed I couldn't make the show. They always kick ass.
Yeah I always thought it was 3 too. There was a fourth lingering in the shadows though. I wonder if his presence took a load off Wata because he definitely stole some of her thunder. They also made sure to not put any sort of light on this guy. Strange...
Every time I've seen Boris they've had the second guitar player. I think he's the guy from Ghost, but not 100%.
I LOVE that he has a gong and the headset mic. Makes me love them so much more. And I've never seen a show where Wata sings, so that's made me more excited for our November turn now!

Went to a great Show last night on a whim. Narrows and Helms Alee @ New Parish in Oakland. Narrows-Amazing Mathcore band with the singer from Botch and other members from These arms are Snakes and Unbroken. Helms Alee- chick on bass, chick on drums and viking on guitar, all of which sang, sometimes in unison. The guitarist is the brother of Narrows singer. Both guys were fuckin awesome guys, easily approachable. Helms Alee had great stage chemistry and were constantly picking on each other throughout the show, it was fun to watch. Narrows singer had this one move that was hilarious, he would go up to unsuspecting guys near the stage and throw his leg over their shoulder and basically put his crotch near their face, classy! Amazing show for only $10
Oh nice, I didn't know the dude from Botch was currently in a band. I shall check them out.

Yeah they're really good, well not as good as Botch, just different I guess. Uggghhhh! Opeth tonight and no one to go with![]()
The only time i got to see Botch happened to be their very last show in CA before breaking up and they tore my face right off. Those guys were so fucking brutal. They happened to be opening up for Dillinger Escape Plan that night as well.

Opeth. Midset. Salsa Breakdown?
Not as heavy as they were at Roo this year, but still great. They did end up playing their newer song Porcelain Heart which is pretty breath taking live which then lead into a killer drum solo~5 mins long.
Half way through the set...Post samba break down jam session, they played the rest of the set acoustic, interesting.
High On Fire will be at the Viper Room Saturday 11/12/11 for $20

Russian Circles + Superman vs. Brainiac(Geoff Johns/Gary Frank)= Spectacular. I need that LEAK!!!
Richard thanks for posting that video of Mastodon "Spectrelight"....FUCKING NUTS....after listening to it on repeat today just got a floor ticket to the Wiltern show. These guys' musicianship is unreal.
Fuck yeah! I'm really excited about that show, hoping I have the night off.
My dad and I went to Anthrax/Testament last night, goooood shit.
Saw Mastodon two nights ago and again last night. They killed it. The new songs sound incredible live, much better than on the album (especially Spectrelight). About 1/3 was stuff from The Hunter while the rest was Blood Mountain and Leviathan for the most part (a couple Crack the Skye and Remission tracks as well). Highly recommended to check them out on this tour.

I found this album from 2008 on a metal blog I frequent. It's a self titled release from Nahvalr. It's really weird, dark, stuff. Here's the labels description of it:
If anyone is interested I can group it."Nahvalr is Open-Source Black Metal. What does that mean? It means using the internet, using the solitude and separation caused by home recording and digital distribution, to bring together sounds, songs, and lyrics from dozens of artists, each working in complete ignorance of the other.
Collected, edited, and added to by Dan Barrett and Tim Macuga (of Have A Nice Life), Nahvalr evolved from dozens of unconnected sound files into a shrieking whirlwind of noise, blasphemy, distortion, reverb, and evil. Distortion and noise are used as intruments; cacophany gives way to quiet ambience, ambience gives way to black-metal pounding and screaming, screaming gives way to mumbled singing and lo-fi buzz."
RAPE STOVE
white power?!
Tonight was Red Fang/DEP/Mastodon.... Red fang was extremely mediocre live unfortunately. Their albums do rock though. Mastodon was great! I wouldn't say mind blowing but definitely pretty great. They played a bunch of songs I was unfamiliar with and I'd say I got to know Leviathan, Crack the Skye and a few songs off the new album, fairly well. This is probably my fault due to lack of study.
Mind blowing= DEP+ Mike Patton... Totally unexpected! Yes, they have recorded several songs together on Irony is a Dead Scene. Yes Patton lives in NorCal.. but still, i didn't think he'd come out. Dillinger's energy totally blew the rest of the show out of the water, It was almost hard to watch Mastodon after having my mind fucked, been stage dove upon and several pits later... The rest of the night just paled in comparison.
To top it off, I got to meet Greg from DEP because I decided to leave Mastodon early. Good decision? I think so...
