I totally forgot about the show at New Parish. I'm really bummed I missed it.
In an effort to constantly expand my musical horizons and give some balance to my listening habits so that I don't end up a middle aged candy raver, I'm making January a personal metal month and will be listening to at least two metal albums I've never heard every day. Recommendations are encouraged, especially any best of 2010 or best of the 00's type things. Old classics that shouldn't be passed up are encouraged as well. Things I've heard and liked from 2010 include Burzum, The Body, Shining, Black Boned Angel, Harvey Milk. Last night I listened to the Nachtmystium and Yakuza albums and more or less enjoyed those as well. I downloaded a lot of 2010 metal also, mostly stuff from Decibel's and Popmatters top metal lists. In general, I prefer noisier, weirder shit as opposed to more meatheady type stuff, although I'm not opposed to dumb fun or hardcore influenced metal.
I posted something that falls under the weirder/noisier classification on the last page. It's short and sweet.
John recommended Nasum to me earlier this year with this song
and I really loved the entirety of the album, Shift
Also, check out Dystopia's Human = Garbage for some great sludge
I am sure i'll come up with more recs

Morbid Angel is playing Scion's Rock Fest 2011 in Pomona.

I'd pay good money to see Chaos AD, or any album for that matter, in its entirety. Sepultura without any of the Cavalera Bro's is just wrong.
If you are still doing this I recommend the following
Abruptum - Obscuritatem Advoco Amplectere Me - Finnish black metal. The album is two 25 minute slabs of some of the least musical metal I've ever heard. Fantastic shit.
Anaal Nathrakh - The Codex Necro - Because whenever a band names themself after the Charm of Making you know they're crazy. Black metal that borders on grindcore.
I uploaded a Melechesh album (Emissaries) in the MLBMOTW thread earlier so hopefully you've already heard that, but if not, go there for a brighter black metal album.
Then listen to Dead as Dreams by Weakling. They are named after a Swans song and only put out the one album, which is sort of progressive black metal. The music is definitely black metal other than the extended multi-part songs.

probably the same way any other metal head gets down..... drunken, long haired debauchery with a fist full of invisible oranges.

It's too bad we don't have Hellfest in the US anymore. I never got to go, although i dreamed of making that trek to Syracuse one day.

That is a really incredible line up. I love that they've got something for everyone where metal is concerned

Are you joking me? What a lineup....cant believe they got Bad Brains and Iggy & the Stooges...
Upcoming Shows:
Pitchfork Festival: 7/19 @ Union Park
Mountain Oasis Festival: 10/25-27
Coachella: 4/11-13 @ Empire Polo Fields
That lineup is stupid good.
Except for Disturbed, what the fuck were they thinking? And Cradle Of Filth, lulz - those guys are dicks.
Fuck Yes! When Valient Thorr is opening up a weekend you know it's gonna be a party
The first 2 stages are dual stages. So as soon as 1 band is done on the main, the other band starts up on the second. As much as I like this, it means having to hear Morbid Angel to get rail for Iggy
Edit: How has anyone yet to make fun of Mr. Big? Speaking of cheesey old farts, I'm totally gonna rock out to Scorpions and Priest. Fuck Ozzy though, I saw him in 2000 and 2001 with Sabbath, it was awful. I can't imagine he's gotten better
