that's my opinion of Isis
hm, Isis is a very acquired taste though, especially for someone who's more used to a more metalcore sound
clutch, Melvins, maybe something like Zozobra or Trenches would be better to start with before trying to get right into Isis
in that vein i've been REALLY diggin' JESU and PELICAN lately
YAY i never meet anyone who even knows who jesu is. It got ot a point of pure obsession for me after a little while. So happy that he releases so much material.
I only very recently got ahold of the pre-s/t stuff. "Sun Up?Sun Down" is fucking incredible
Also been really digging on the Envy split
Dear Metal Thread,
My boyfriend is really into Scandinavian prog metal like Opeth and Dark Tranquility. I'm trying to get into it a bit so that we can have some common ground musically (and I always like to expand my tastes), but it comes off kind of cheesy to me. I like my metal down and dirty and usually sludgy, and this stuff is just too clean. Do I just need to give it more time, or am I right and it's actually really cheesy?
I am a big Opeth fan, (or was), but yes, I find that much of their work is way too clean and that is why I gravitate to it less and less as time goes on. Much of it just borders on the cheesy side unfortunately. But when it's good, it's great.
I think their album Blackwater Park, their most most famous album, may very well be their most sludgy as well. But I can't remember...
But no, I don't think it needs time. It is what it is.
i think it's a matter of taste. i like cheesy stuff, i listen to a lot of power metal, but i'm the first to admit it's cheesy
this thread needs more meshuggah and sepultura..
Troops
Of
Dooooooom
and since i posted NMCC in the other thread about metal, this one gets Future Breed Machine.
two of my favorites. later sepultura was cool too, but Schizophrenia is great.
these too:
SYL
Fear Factory
can you tell I don't listen to much new metal?
they're a love em or hate em type band. i won't defend them, they've written a lot of shitty songs too. i like demanufacture a lot though, but hearing "cars" or "descent" makes me hate them.
LIFE IS THE BEST GAME IN TOWN AND DEATH GOES TO THE WINNER
I just sat here for 8 minutes waiting for this dildo to do something...WTF?
Suffacated met these guys at the Ozzfest one year. Motorgrater. He ended up befriending the lead singer, Ivan, and we followed him to afew LA shows. Plenty of stage makeup and theatrics, but unfortunately plenty of drama and politics broke them up. Huge bummer considering I had never quite experienced this type of metal before and actually liked them.
After Motorgrater split ways, Ivan, who has experience in everything from this screaming metal to church gospel, got together with some guys to form F.F.D.P. Because of Ivan, we followed them to the Key Club and Viper Room in LA, House of Blues in San Diego, and last year drove to Las Vegas to see them in some local dive bar to a packed house.
Pretty amazing to have watched these guys grow in fanbase and we certainly wish we could continue following them...We just can't afford Europe just yet! I came acrossed one video that regardless of the metal and screaming, I was simply in tears watching the enormous crowd in attendance! To the top, you KNUCKLEHEADS!!!

A Daft Punk thread containing 'nothing of substance'. How bout that.
BTW... the Motorgrater song is called "Suffacate." (Imagine that!)

They've come a long way from those small clubs in LA...
