    Question Never Mind the Buzzcocks

I did a search and came up empty handed. Have there really been no discussions of Never Mind the Buzzcocks and the delightfully snarky Simon Amstell?

Anyone else watch this show with glee? I'm so grateful to the good hearted Brits who promptly upload every episode to YouTube when the show's in session. Speaking of which, when is it back on the air again?

love this show, though i do need to get caught up with the latest season.
some highlights that immediately come to mind: the gay-off w/ john barrowman, samuel preston walking off, the amy winehouse episode, and the one w/ the "punk" from the Towers of London

The Amy Winehouse episode was a classic. I liked her a lot more for it, oddly, although it loses a lot of effect when it's cut into highlights...

Simon Amstell is a cruel, and pitiless, and very funny man.

    I love this show

The season that ended recently isn't quite up the usual standards, but it was still most enjoyable. And, um, bleep? Get out of my head! Those are basically my favorite moments as well!

MissingPerson, I'll tell you why you "liked her [Winehouse] a lot more for it".
    1. She showed her wicked sense of humor ("I'd rather have Cat AIDS!")
    2. She showed her rather sweet side when she leapt to the rescue of the elderly gentleman who was being harassed by the other panelists.

The Cat Aids thing was so good I intend to sneak it into conversation at some point, and claim it as my own.

Uh, not actual cat Aids you understand...

I think that episode, moreso than her actual music, is why I'm rooting for Winehouse to get her shit together. Like you say, she's got a wicked sense of humour in there.

One of the stations here is showing the old Mark Lamarr episodes. I never thought it would survive without him, but Simon Amstell so owns the show now that Lamarr seems weak in comparison.

Yeah, I was late to this show and only started watching when Amstell took over. I've tried watching the Lamarr epsidoes, but I just don't get the appeal. He has nothing on Amstell.

He was custom designed for that show. I can't see him succeeding quite as well in any other medium.

Apparently he's developing some other project with the BBC and also focusing on his stand up. I agree that he's tailor made for the show, but I'll definitely check out what he does next. I remember being crushed that Tina Fey was leaving SNL to do some silly sitcom and that turned out to be the best move of her career, so who knows...

Buzzcocks is dead without Simon Amstell.

The guest presenter thing has worked well with other shows, but unless they pull somebody awesome soon, the party's over.

Is it on the air again, MP? Who has been guest hosting?

James Corden hosted this week. He's not very good.

And what the hell is Amstell up to? Hopefully whatever it is fails miserably and he comes right back to where he belongs.

Wow, this thread isn't about vibrators?
Its like the Infinite Monkey Theorem, if you put X amount of monkeys in a room with a typewriter and ask them to give you Shakespeare 99% of them will fling their shit at you while the other 1% will masturbate in the corner.

Apparently Frankie Boyle is hosting this next week.

I suspect he's going to put Simon Amstell in the shade. It'll be his first return to real TV after a previous joke furore. If you've never seen or heard Frankie Boyle before, it's going to be uh... quite something.

    I'm quite excited.

    Those were the days.

Also, his E4 interviews were the stuff of legend - I love the Babyshambles one. Pete comes over as a true genius of his time.

Nice! A Buzzcocks thread. Love this show. I'll take this over reality tv any day. Is it back on in the UK or still on hiatus?

Simon Amstell's new show is quite funny. The cast is fantastic. Well, Amstell's a terrible actor, but I already like it after 2 eps.

I wasn't quite sure what to make of Grandma's house at first, largely because of Amstell's rather odd constantly-about-to-laugh delivery, and the way it jars with Rebecca Front's slightly OTT sitcom mammy performance.

I think it probably relies a little too much on a degree of familiarity with Amstell's actual career and perceived personality. It kind of depends on the uncomfortable uncertainty about how much might be true to life, and occasionally, on contrasting Amstell's fiercely abrasive media persona with his character's (?) slightly bumbling and mundane every day life.

Anyway, I enjoy it because I like Amstell a lot, and I suspect it is close enough to the truth to be quite a gutsy show to make - but I'd imagine it would be a bit alienating and weird to anybody looking at it without any prior interest in the guy.

The guest host thing seems to be working for the most part. Loved this game on the episode that Adam Buxton just hosted...

It's even funnier when you see it in context. I kinda ruined it for you. It's the random tie-breaker at the end of the episode.
