Unfortunately with counseling you get to deal with A LOT of it. It's not just about sitting around and listening to the kids problems or helping them get into college anymore.

It's why you guys get paid the big bucks . . . not.

BA in Business Economics with Emphasis in Accounting
    University of California Santa Barbara

I turely believe that I'm better off today than if I had gone to get an MBA. Taking two years off in the corporate world would have set me back further than the advancement an MBA would provide or doing a part-time / night-time program, I feel would have distracted me from the ability to grow my career.

I look at my peers with MBAs and the only ones that matter are the very top executives. At the executive level, it seems almost all have an MBA from a top 25 program. By executive I mean (CEO, CFO, President, etc..., not middle management).

At the lower levels, my experience is that (on average) those with MBAs actually have progressed less in their careers than other peers. I've seen this accross a variety of industries (Entertainmnet, Finance, Gaming, Consulting, Manufacturing, etc..)

The MBA will always be on thier resume and that may mean a lot to them, but it's not getting them any further. The annoying part is they constantly remind you of thier MBA. It's almost like complaining that they are in a position 'lower' than they think they are capabale of and always drop the "MBA" thing.

I forgot to put I got a BA in English. I didn't really have any reason to get that except that I enjoy reading. I doubt I will ever know what I want to be when I grow up.

I don't think that high school diploma and GED should be lumped together, mostly because I take pride in having a GED and not a diploma.

He was bored by school. Now he's one of those bullshit intellects that thinks he knows shit because he didn't give in to the road most traveled.

Being bored by school is a common thing. Some people just learn differently then others. I hated sitting in a class listening to lectures and taking notes and doing homework. I use to get so much shit because I would take their standardized testing, ace it and score at the 12th grade 9th month level yet still got F's. When my mom kicked me out at 16 I wanted to continue going to school but because my sister didn't have "legal" custody they wouldn't allow me to finish high school. I ended up going and taking my GED exam and passing the first time when I turned 18. High school just isn't the right place for some people.

Okay, I earned my B.S. in Streetwise, and completed a special course in Hard Knocks. (Which wasn't cheap on the pocketbook I might add.) Now I'm going for my Masters in Survival 101. I used to think that Hard Knocks course was a waste of "time," but now I feel it's benefits in survivng the economy and rude awakening our country is facing now. Seriously, with all the job losses and people losing their homes, how many would really be able to handle going from executive living into a more controlled and compact living situation like my schooling has provided over the years and still Master Survival?
Its like the Infinite Monkey Theorem, if you put X amount of monkeys in a room with a typewriter and ask them to give you Shakespeare 99% of them will fling their shit at you while the other 1% will masturbate in the corner.

For perspective, I made more money in 2003 than I did in 2008 (overtime) and I was actually promoted last year.

Thankfully for me, I started my own dj/karaoke company two years ago which has covered the large shortfall in my main income. Most of the people that I work with (we've let go half our force in the last 6 months) have not been nearly as fortunate.
Where do you host your karaoke?

I went to a four year college for two years and a two year college for three years part time and then I stopped because I didn't have any more money and I didn't like my major.

I am not a smart man, but I know what love IS.

what's funny is i met a doctor in his late 30s while in switzerland at a family wedding last year. the doctor seemed completely miserable. he had a little girl and i guess a wife at home, but he was hitting on me so it must not have been a happy marriage. he asked about school and i told him i was on the million year plan and he said "good. ya know, i rushed through all levels of school to get into the medical profession and what do i have to show for it? i don't have any fun and now i'm too old to do a lot of the things i wanted to do. school will always be there, take your time and have fun. i wish i had done it like you.". so it's nice to get reassurance from someone who killed themselves going through school that it's better just to take your time and enjoy yourself.
Thanks Ivy, stories like these are always reassuring.
