but it is worth it in the end.
For the most part, the majority of Masters programs are relatively easy. They are basically the cash cows, although they do serve a purpose. If you move on to your doctorate, that is when it picks up again.

I'm sitting on an AA, albeit begrudgingly, and am working toward a BA in Communications. It's fair to say that my educational career has been a bit of a roller coaster.

I have an absolutely useless psychology degree. My boss, nor his boss, nor his boss have a degree. They make fun of me from time-to-time, usually by stating, "All that college and you're stuck here with us."

I haven't started college yet. If my job wants me to have a degree, they can pay for it. Otherwise I'm in no rush, and I'm certainly not taking out any loans; i'll pay for classes when I have the money.

I have a BA in English Language and Composition. I mostly focused on linguistics my last two years. Aaaaand...I work in accounting now. I was invited to join the Master's program for linguistics, but I wasn't so sure that I wanted to make my living studying languages. Sometimes I regret not pursuing that. I like accounting, and I'm good at it, but it's not especially interesting.

I work for a 3rd party logistics company in Detroit. We primarily deal with the automotive sector. Anyone who's watched the news, oh I don't know, in the past year, you'd know it's not the most secure job! When I took the job, the pay was great and the benefits were awesome. For perspective, I made more money in 2003 than I did in 2008 (overtime) and I was actually promoted last year.

Thankfully for me, I started my own dj/karaoke company two years ago which has covered the large shortfall in my main income. Most of the people that I work with (we've let go half our force in the last 6 months) have not been nearly as fortunate.

And i'll have my Ph.D. in 6 months...so what??...its not about the degree you have, its about how you use your education! (and, I am not joking about being done with my Ph.D. in 6 months).

No worries. It took me 3 years, a lack of direction at first, partying and Coachella 2007 set me back a few quarters.

lack of direction is a big deal. i could have gone to college on my parents dime at 17, but i dropped out to party instead. i also had no clue what skills i had to offer an employer or what type of work i'd ACTUALLY be good at. it wasn't until i moved out with my boyfriend and got a job that i had any motivation or idea of what i wanted to study.

what's funny is i met a doctor in his late 30s while in switzerland at a family wedding last year. the doctor seemed completely miserable. he had a little girl and i guess a wife at home, but he was hitting on me so it must not have been a happy marriage. he asked about school and i told him i was on the million year plan and he said "good. ya know, i rushed through all levels of school to get into the medical profession and what do i have to show for it? i don't have any fun and now i'm too old to do a lot of the things i wanted to do. school will always be there, take your time and have fun. i wish i had done it like you.". so it's nice to get reassurance from someone who killed themselves going through school that it's better just to take your time and enjoy yourself.

Counseling isn't an easy job either. You carry the weight of the kids many issues, and the weight of all the clerical bullshit that no one else wants to do.

    But we need you.
