Maybe it's the power of suggestion with those names at the top of the poster. It would make sense though, fans may be more apt to enjoy bands influenced by the headliners.

Agreed, although I've been using JAMC as the reference point. Listen to "Psycho Candy" and then listen to "A Place To Bury Strangers." I'm glad to see this genre making a comeback.

It's probably just me...

It's not just you, and part of me thinks it has something to do with marketing towards the SoCal/Mexi-emo-punk genres. Since a lot more people probably won't be flying across the country or from another country due to financial concerns, it makes sense that GV would book bands that are most popular in the areas directly around the festival's location.
