Bumping into someone is one thing. Being a tool, running around at a show and pushing people is something else. I've seen the Shins and had people bump into me, but I'm not talking about it. stop taking this argument into extremes not relevant to what is at hand.

there will be no pit for most bands, fleet foxes included
if you dont wanna be in a pit avoid bands like mastodon and turbonegro, if you are fans of them AND still wanna avoid the pit..... maybe you need a good hit in the face.

dude, its very simple, if you dont like to mosh, dont get in the pit. the pit is usually a very small portion of the entire front area. if a pit starts right around you, it is very easy to simply move out of the way and still enjoy the show. sure, you might get a little push or shove for a minute, but if you cant deal with that, you really shouldnt be up front in the first place, cuz when that many people cram into such a small place, there is bound to be some contact.

moshing is just a weird dance form and if you dont get it, thats cool, but dont hate. when done properly, people in the pit respect each other and look out for each other and if somebody goes down, everybody picks them back up. there are always those bad apples though that ruin it by seriously trying to hurt people by swinging their fists around or throwin elbows, but thats bullshit and they usually get theirs in the end.

i agree there is a time and a place for moshing, and people who try to start pits at mellow shows are douchebags, but if you are up front for any kind of high energy show and pit breaks out, dont be such a pussy. just let them have their fun and move over a bit so you can have yours. usually when there is a pit, this is pretty easy to do since people are moving around.

Moshing can be quite useful when appropriate, it's one of the easiest ways to move through crowds. Without them I would have never gotten to the front during Tool and Rage. I was 100 times more uncomfortable during Bjork in 2007 than I was during Rage. Bjork was like swimming through people.

Just stay away from certain bands and you will be fine, I've never really had a problem with mosh pits myself.

I went to a show they did in Pomona the next night and the crowd was the exact opposite, just rude as fuck. A crowd really can affect a concert experience. Like I said, it's not a matter of moving as much as it is just doing it in a respectable manner

That is your problem right there...you dont go to a show in Pomona...you should actually steer clear of the 909 as much as possible!

This is my first year doing Coachella, but I have been to many other shows and Festivals and I know that the one thing that can ruin it is Moshing. getting a handful of people who create a giant circle in the middle of the crowd just so they can laugh like morons and bump into each other. Now its not like their are a ton of Mosh style bands here, I doubt Fleet Foxes and Beirut will create violence, but i have seen some pretty low-key bands spawn mosh pits...

So please, in 2009, lets put an end to the Mosh pit. Stop ruining the concert for the people who go there to watch the band.

Weren't reports from Rage in 2007 actually not that bad? I mean, nothing like Rage @ Lolla in 2008 from what I've heard...


Coachella is pretty peaceful overall. People like dancing more than moshing has been what I've seen before.

There was a guy flailing his limbs around next to me during Les Savy Fav and it was a bit annoying but then the singer trampled him while wearing a garbage can over his head and it swiftly became one of the best Coachella moments ever.

A couple people tried but no one was feeling it apparently. I fell and got a bruised rib like 3 days before I left for Coachella that year so I was avoiding pits like the plague anyway.
