Default How much money should I plan on bringing to Coachella?

I'm a Coachella virgin. And planning on bringing my own waters, probably several of them... they're allowed inside as long as they haven't been opened, right? Do they limit you on how many bottles you can bring in per person?

How much did you end up spending on food, etc. during the three days?
Do the vendors accept credit/debit cards?

(my bad if these questions have already been brought up..)

Water, even unopened bottles, are not allowed in. Sometimes the security doesn't care or doesn't see them but they, officially, are not allowed in.

Food vendors do not accept credit/debit cards.

Depending on how much and what you eat you can get a meal for $5-10.

I'll try to eat a good breakfast before and I'll plan on making myself a sandwich or something when I get back after, so I usually have one full meal inside and maybe another snack. So I usually spend $15 per day on food. But if you don't have food where you're staying or get hungry more often or don't eat a good breakfast beforehand... you could easily spend $20 - 30.

You will want to drink a lot of water. They sell it at $2 per 500 mL bottle. They have had water refilling stations the past two years; which means you can wait in a line (there almost always is one, in the early evening it can be pretty long) and fill your water bottle(s) with tap water.

I usually end up drinking 2-3 L of water per day and maybe a Gatorade (sold for around $3.) Which means $11 - $15 spent on hydration, unless you're spending your time in lines refilling.

Which means I am going to plan on at least $30 a day for food and hydration. Per day.

I will probably also try to bring other money for mechandise, etc. There is a General Store that sells things like chapstick, sunblock, earplugs, advil.

There is a merch booth that sells Coachella and band T-shirts, sweatshirts, tote bags, posters, etc. The shirts usually are about $25 each.

There have also been other, independent merchandise booths that sell a broader range of non-festival specific goods, such as CDs, sweatshirts, shoes, sunglasses and jewelry.

Last year security was lax all 3 days, and I got all my frozen water bottles in every day, but you can't count on it every year.

I generally spend about $80 to $100 a day, but I drink alot. Don't double-fist mind you (I saw a dude doing this in the beer tent one time...he was sauced around 3pm).

I bring my own booze in....so between waters and gatorade and food for the day, I spend about $20-25. I also load up on breakfast before I come in so I don't have to spend my time in food lines. And don't count on them letting you in with water. They let us in with one unopened one each last year, but that wasn't in the rulebooks.

Yeah in '07 the first day security was making everyone throw their water out, but the following 2 days it was so hot they let everyone bring water in. Last year I didn't have any problems bringing in water or gatorade provided it was sealed.

i brought $100 (for one day) and that went wayyyy fast
although that was due to me buying like 2 shirts and food/water throughout the day

i would bring about $100 per day but if you know the tricks you probably wont end up spending it all.

Yeah, you usually should plan on needing twice as much money than you think you need. I try to avoid festival food, but usually my taste-buds have evaporated by sunday and I end up buying that hot dog that has been sitting in the sun for 2 days straight.
Plan on drinking lots of water and having the money to pay for it. There are ATM's with long lines and $7 fees, so best to bring more money than you expect.
Like most posters above, it is mixed whether you can bring water in. You might get away with one bottle. I tried a camel pack one year but the water gets warm and nasty after a few hours. You just gotta prepare to be raped and buy $2 waters.

You CAN bring in unopened water, I dunno why you guys are saying you cant. I brought in three bottles a day every day and there was no problem. As long as they are still sealed you can bring in at least two

I plan $60 a day per person (no alcohol in that budget). We can easily drink$20 worth of water-and we eat about 2 times during the fest days because afterwards we have found we are starving and tired and only want to get drinks and hit the hot tub. Its like-too late for decent food and in the early years nothing was open after11pm including hotel room service. Now the room service is in operation but you can be asleep before it arrives. I agree with the big breakfast idea-we go to the buffet and load up!

    False.

From the FAQ on the main website:

    NO
    Outside Food & Bev

Now, as the others were saying, a lot of times security doesn't mind. If you are camping, you definitely shouldn't have a problem.

I was able to do the same. And my bag was searched all three days, so it's not like they didn't know they were there.

Thanks for clearing up the water situation for me!
I would have been bummed if I were to lug a ton of waters to the entrance only to have to lug them back... or have them thrown away.. I may just risk it though, depends on how strong I'm feeling haha.

And thanks for the insight on how much to bring! I know I'm going to end up getting hungry with all the walking I'm sure I'll be doing... SO EXCITED!

Another thing; This may be a dumb question, but are there any ins and outs?

You know, Coachella really does have a very well-organized website. Not slamming you but it really is worth a read. And there's pictures.

Tip: Bring water on your way into the festival and drink it while waiting in line.

i spen like $60 on beer all 3 days last year

i was worth it just to foce my excited ass to sit down once and a while

otherwise if you plan on being really thrifty, you could totally like on $30/day. Say $10 for 5 water bottles and $20 for food. Could probabaly spend a lot less on food if you jus want hot dogs , and you may wan more water. I didn't need all that much water last year though - i was pretty damn nice out

in 2007 i brought $40 for one day. i bought a bunch of water, veggie corndog, pizza, and an acai thing and still had some to spare.

remember to eat breakfast before entering. either a peanutbutter sandwich or something from a local store. anything is cheaper than the food in the fest.

unless you are a shopaholic who doesn't know how to handle money, $30 per day will get you more than you need.

i'd say, bring 2 bottles with you. drink one while you're walking to the enterance and another while you're waiting in line. that's $4 saved and you'll be nice and energized at your moment of entrance which will make you very happy.

You could easily spend around $30 a day if you limit yourself to water and don't eat a lot, provided you have your own alcohol/drugs before you get in. Or just stay in the Sahara tent all you will need is water all day.
