It's the hottest day in Melbourne since 1908 at the moment and it's bloody unbearable!!

Please tell me Coachella doesn't get anywhere near 46 degrees!! Or 115 Fahrenheit in your crazy non-metric world lol

HA! Everyone claims it got all the way up to like 110 in 2004. And I always believed it. Unless that site just pulled it out of their ass.

Because I also wonder... Did it really get up to 103 in 2007? I don't believe so. Did it really get up to 101 in 2008? I'm pretty sure it never topped a hundred last year.

I don't remember it being unbearably hot last year. This year probably won't be that bad either.

    That sounds more like it.

Felt like someone was holding a hair dryer in front of your face all day. Not that we let it ruin our fun... we just stayed in the pool a bit longer.

In Rancho Mirage, the temp reached 112 in '07...I don't know how hot it was down on field level, but it had to at least reach the 110s with all the body heat and lack of shade. It was pretty damn hot in '07. In 2008? Not so much.

I think it's hotter at the Palm Springs end of the valley and gets cooler toward Indio. In 2007 I stayed in a hotel in Palm Springs and leaving there around 7:30am in order to go to the festival grounds it was much hotter than when we got to Indio and were walking to the entrance. Not sure why.

No shit, huh? Too bad we can't bag this shit up and use it in July and August! I'm about a mile from the fest site, what part of our quaint little valley are you in Memorial07?

Coachella gets really hot. It got to 128 F one year, in 2006 it was 121, I was running around outside doing stuff. I'd be sweating like a dog walking from my car to the office door, which was maybe...50 feet away? I was dying! But that's during the summer...The festival's during the Spring, and though the valley is just hot from april to october, it's bearable during the Spring. God, I don't miss 110 averages all summer.
    Upcoming: 04/11/14-04/13/14 - Coachella Weekend One; 04/18/14-04/20/14 - Coachella Weekend Two; 08/19/14 - NIN/Soundgarden (Isleta Amphitheater - Albuquerque, NM)

This year will be substantially cooler than any other year due to the dates moving up by two weeks. Each of the last three years it has been somewhat cool a week or two before the fest. Hopefully we see daytime highs in the mid to upper 80's F.

128 is a little hard to believe when the highest recorded temperature in the Western Hemisphere was 134F in 1913. Here is the almanac from Indio, CA in 2006:

    April 28
    Actual: 85 | 56
    Precip: 0.00
    Average: 91 | 58
    Precip: 0.00

    April 29 Clear
    Actual: 86 | 52
    Precip: 0.00
    Average: 91 | 58
    Precip: 0.00

    April 30 Clear
    Actual: 94 | 55
    Precip: 0.00
    Average: 91 | 58
    Precip: 0.00

Yes...it gets very warm there. It may feel like its 120F, but its not! If you want that sort of temperature, come to Phoenix in the middle of July with a black car and black interior and watch your CDs melt on your dashboard!

Despite that, I don't think it even gets that hot out here in phoenix (although, it does feel like HELL in the summer out here!)

By the way, here is the almanac for Last Year's Coachella:

    April 24 Clear
    Actual: 90 | 61
    Precip: 0.00
    Average: 90 | 57
    Precip: 0.00

    April 25 Clear
    Actual: 93 | 48
    Precip: 0.00
    Average: 91 | 57
    Precip: 0.00

    April 26 Clear
    Actual: 100 | 51
    Precip: 0.00
    Average: 91 | 57
    Precip: 0.00

    April 27 Clear
    Actual: 98 | 65
    Precip: 0.00
    Average: 91 | 58
    Precip: 0.00

It always feels much much worse than whatever the temperature is, because the California sun is always sticking fucking needles in your skin. Whatever the weather experts tell you is only what temperature it is in the shade. Although 103 in the shade sounds about right.

Last year didn't seem that hot, it seemed nearly ideal. I thought it got as hot as 114 in 2004 but once it gets over 100 you can barely tell the difference. The heat in general doesn't bother me nearly as much since I've been going to Coachella. It's helped to put things in perspective.

128 was the unofficial high in the coachella/thermal area, in july of 1995, I believe. The official high was 126. I guess I wasn't clear I wasn't referring to temps during the festival, which are much lower.

Edit: I checked on weather.com and Coachella, CA has averages that are just as hot, and hotter in some months. I always knew this to be true, growing up in Coachella, but the internets confirm it.
