Default THE POLICE on the GRAMMYS

Well they played. What did you think?

They sounded OK to me - Not a terible difficult song to bounce back with. Didn't like the middle bit when the went all Dream of the Blue Turtles on everyone.

Stewart kicked the shit out the skins, he was a highlight for sure. Andy looked bored, and Sting just looked filthy rich.

The votes mean nothing. The band sounded great. Why wouldn't they? I wasn't blown away but I was never a huge Police fan. It's be cool if they were at Coachella but there are so many other bands and DJ's to catch that I am not upset. They will probably be at Bonnaroo so I'll probably see them there if I go. if not, I hear they are playing at Wrigley Field in Chicago.

Those of you on the west coast that want to see them - make sure and tune in on time, they start the show right away with their performance.

If the Police play Bonnaroo it would be quite a coup for Superfly. I would be very surprised if it happens but not all together surprised. Roger Waters or David Gilmour makes more sense for Bonnaroo.

The Police at Bonnaroo will be the only way they could stand a chance in beating Coachella line up wise I think this year... Besides GV has some tricks up their sleeves anyway so we'll see... They better play the Hollywood Bowl here, not freaking Dodger stadium...

That bridge was terrible and it kinda ruined the song for me. The sound that came through was also pretty weak, even for a TV broadcast. I mean, it was a big event and on some level it would've been cool to be there to see and it got me to tune in for 3 minutes before I switched back to the Suns game.

And the Police aren't on the Coachella lineup so don't be shocked when this thread gets moved/deleted.

It was good, I just wanna see how good they are after playing like 50 shows and then show up in L.A.

    Ok I must protest this....

    Winner:
Electronic/Dance Album: "Confessions on a Dance Floor," Madonna.

Just because they saw Madonna they voted for it, what a joke.......

Although I find it amusing that OK Go won for best short for music video...

yeah i didnt dig the bridge...i think the sound can be attributed to andy summers rig, he usually uses fender twins which are really crisp and bright and he looked like he was playing through a CAE head which have really bland cleans, and andy summers whole rig is based on his clean tone. the bass and drums sounded fine.

agreed. I didn't think the bridge part sounded Kenny G-esque at all (as someone stated previously), but instead sounded like their song 'When the World is Running Down....", which is very 'jammy' and uses echo effects. If anything, I thought the bridge of the song set up the ending of Roxanne to a VERY energetic crescendo. Sting sounded pretty good. And Stewart Copeland was absolutely tearing up the drums! Very impressive, driven rhythm section between the two of them!
It looks like Bonnaroo may very well match Coachella once again this year for headliners, (as they did last year with Radiohead).

Dixie Chicks won album of the year.... Gnarls of Justin shouldve gotten it, RHCP had no chance and John Mayer was a contender but he got pop album so he cant win em all...

Yeah but everyone here at Coachella just laughs because they are getting the "leftovers" since most of the acts they are going to book will have played over here first or have before... Unless they got The Police and David Gilmour, or something to that effect..

The Grammys have sucked for years and years. I always watch in hopes things will be different - but they never are. The last good one was in 87 when Prince performed.

I thought they sounded just okay. But Sting couldn't hit the high notes and had lowered the chorus. It felt like a letdown. (Ummm....pun not intended) If he can't hit those notes anymore, maybe they should lower the key? I thought they all looked quite fit, though, and Stewart was wonderful as always.

I loved it, personally. That bridge part was what the Police were known for. If you listen to their old live stuff, they did things like that all the time. Didn't notice the sound level...sounded fine to me.

Yes, I am biased...I am a huge Police fan.

I really like The Police...but Roxanne is a lame-ass song. They could've picked something better, but I guess it's THE song for The Police.

I've never understood why Roxanne is so popular. It's OK, but it's one of the weaker songs on "Outlandos D'Amour". As far as debut albums go, that's one of the best of all time, but Roxanne is...eh.

I'd have to see them play "Next To You", "So Lonely", "Truth Hits Everybody" or something else that rocks to judge whether they still "got it".
