Thread: Coachella has jumped the shark

Default Coachella has jumped the shark

This use to be the best festival in the world, now it's another corporate sell out. Madonna wrecked this festival, and Britney Spears in the dance this year will kill it off.

Coachella 2007...the last mind blowing line up

Paul McCartney, The Cure, Amy Winehouse are you kidding me. I love them in their own right, but that doesn't make them right for this venue. I guess Coachella likes the formula it's used the past few years of bringing back old timers and blending them with some new acts. The concert has sold out the last few years so they are sticking to it.

more appropriate bands to headline would seem more appropriate. i dont think the people who are into the bottom 6 lines are the same ones buying tix because paul mccartney and the killers are playing. bands like pavement, blur, the smiths, pulp, daft punk, kanye (beginning to drift here), those bands seem more appropriate, despite not being as popular, for the rest of the lineup.

Of course Coachella is a 'sell-out' corporate entity, it always has been. They have always had sponsorship and tried to you know make money. Even Radiohead and RATM have acknowledged they are essentially a corporate brand. Have you suddendly just realized this?

yeah they went from getting what is hot right now and went through those and instead of doing a complete recycle of old headliners they bring in artists that have had years of experience under their belt to give it a bit more credibility.

    Roger Waters?
    Prince?
Paul McCartney, no other US festival would have those artists, europe yeah, but not the US. (although I am not a Paul McCartney fan).

and where is Britney Spears listed? I dont understand why everyone is hell bent on Britney Spears being there...or does that just make people think it give stheir argument more credibility. I never saw Britney Spears as a real possibility. I am sorry to keep going back to this but Madonna has more reason being there than Ms. Spears, didnt madonna request being in the dance tent. Plus she is a little more hands on with her music and with who she works with, not what her label throws her way.
    "It's in the K" - Martha Stewart

Since the show list is very minimal...
    August 29 // Chemical Brothers w/ Chromeo & Yacht @ Hollywood Bowl
September 26 // Vampire Weekend w/ Beach House & the Very Best @ Hollywood Bowl
October 5 // ARCADE FIRE @ Henry Miller Library
October 13 // Corin Tucker Band @ The El Rey
(someone should give me Sufjan Stevens tickets, aint got none of those)

do you honestly think they don't try and get these acts every year? well maybe not kanye. don't blame GV, blame your favorite bands.

Leonard Cohen, MBV and Paul McCartney might not be "reunions" but they're really good, rare catches for GV. What reunions would make this right with you? NMH? Pavement? The Jesus Lizard?
