Official Coachella site updated, lineup announcement expected shortly
The Desert Sun • January 29, 2009
In a move expected to put an end to rampant speculation over the 2009 lineup for Coachella, the festival's official site has been updated. Los Angeles radio station KROQ is reporting that the official lineup will be announced during Kevin and Bean early Friday morning.
The site Consequence of Sound is reporting that the live radio announcement will be made around 7:20 a.m. Coachella Valley fans can hear the announcement live at KROQ.com.
This year's announcement, which marks the tenth installation of the Indio-based music event, is being made later than normal, leading many websites to claim that there was difficulty in securing a suitable group of artists.
Earlier this week, Kevin and Bean made claims they would announce the lineup on their Tuesday morning show, which did not happen.
Later in the week, American Idol host Ryan Seacrest posted a secret "official" lineup on his blog. This posting was later denied by Coachella promoters Goldenvoice through the LA Times.
The festival, which draws tens of thousands of music fans from around the world to the Empire Polo Grounds in Indio, traditionally offers an eclectic mix of over 80 artists on five separate stages.
This year, the event takes place the weekend of April 17, 18, and 19th.
