As long as the undercard is solid, and it always is, the headliners are almost irrelevant. If the headliners suck, who cares? If they don't suck, that's icing on the cake.

agree never go for headliners
you can argue that all you want...but everyone always bitches...ALWAYS
Obviously they do matter. That's why we don't have the lineup.
ya everyone always bitches. but the bitching this year about the lineup not being out tops any bitching in years past about the headliners. so gv should weigh the bitching, and figure out that releasing a partial lineup will, overall, result in less bitching. but enough bitching by me.

its funny because of all the times I have gone (only three) I have only seen full sets by a select few of the headliners, depending on who you could consider headliners...well I have seen Portishead, Prince, Radiohead and the Pixies (i call them all headliners but you may not). but i always care who the headliners are for some reason.
As a matter of fact most of the times I have gone I dont really venture to the main stage...maybe just for a couple of songs by an artist but never the full set...
"It's in the K" - Martha Stewart
Since the show list is very minimal...
August 29 // Chemical Brothers w/ Chromeo & Yacht @ Hollywood Bowl
September 26 // Vampire Weekend w/ Beach House & the Very Best @ Hollywood Bowl
October 5 // ARCADE FIRE @ Henry Miller Library
October 13 // Corin Tucker Band @ The El Rey
(someone should give me Sufjan Stevens tickets, aint got none of those)
I do because of the cost and driving distance. Headliners help justify the expenses, don't get me wrong I'd see all of the smaller bands if they played a festival in LA for a cheaper price, but to go out to Coachella and pay high prices there have got to be some good headliners.
USUALLY THERE SHOULD AT LEAST BE 1 GREAT HEADLINER.
2007 HAD AMAZING HEADLINERS
LAST YEAR WAS A BIT ODD. BUT LIKE MENTIONED , THE UNDER CARD WAS SOLID
Agree! I would rather have a solid set of acts, rather than a stellar headliner and a poor undercard. I have only seen 3 headliners out of 11 at Coachella.

I didn't see any of the headliners last year. I don't really care, as long as the rest of the bands are solid. Hell, we missed Roger Waters for MURS (IMO a fully justified choice considering how good MURS was).
Baron Bedros, yegoor eem cupcakes ger!
I do.
Freaking Portishead didn't play anywhere else in the US. Roger waters was one of the best shows I have seen in a long time, Prince was great and the only time I have seen him and Kraftwerk holy shit.
Last year the Headliners were freaking incredible and honestly the underlining acts with the exception of battles, aphex twin and a few others were underwhelming.
I don't really care too much about headliners. I like there to be at least one good headliner. Otherwise.... it's all about the under card!

GV needs big hedliners to get ticket sales. Like last year with Jack-off Johnson and all the OC plums he brought.

I skipped all 3 headliners in 2007 (this is testament to the quality of the rest of the lineup, not a dis on the headliners). Last year I remembered what I was missing... the spectacle! Goldfrapp was incredible, but Portishead/Kraftwerk on that big stage, with those screens was something else.
So yeah, I hope for big, bombastic headliners to close out the day.
