I went cabining this weekend. I started to mess around with the white balance temperature on my camera and the low temperature really complemented the fog.

The grey on grey linking is fucking terrible

Corbo: Your color shot makes me think "Aircraft Carrier" and then "Prison," but in a good way And I really dig the alignment of the b&w shot, it's perfect.

Lake Tenaya

^ missed out lake tenaya because 1) my friends were being little bitches and wanted to go home 2) the information center told us the road was closed.

how did you get to it if the road was closed?

We were there Jan 11-14. Tioga Road closed the following Tues, when the forecast called for snow.

So glad we got to see it under those conditions; it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. We got to skate on it as well.

yeah, now that the excitement has died down a bit i have to be reasonable
do it need it? not really, i do want a full sensor but i can get the d700, it will probably be cheaper when d800 comes out
can i afford it? yes, but i would want to buy it with my samys credit line when they do the no tax 0 interest deal. i pay my shit on time and can save me some $
3 G's IS alot of $ so i would have to justify spending that much on a camera.
i don't do photo jobs, i do get some from time to time from people that ask me if i want to do them
i just like shooting landscapes for fun but there's no money in that. IF i spend over 2Gs on a camera i will kinda feel forced to
look for gigs that will help me recover my expenses...not sure if i want to do that.

Also,

The D400 is rumored to be released around the Olympics. I'll have to see what that's gonna offer. I might consider that one instead of a D700 or D800.

Man, I really want full-frame, but I'm not going to go D800.

If I was considering staying in Hawaii, I would probably sell my Nikon lenses and go Cannon because I'm sick of having to send my shit to the mainland because there are not authorized Nikon repair centers in the state. But instead, I'm going to see where I land for school in the fall, and then start thinking about possibly upgrading my body.

what are you doing to your equipment that you have to send it in for repairs so much?
my Nikon equipment has never broken on me and i abuse it so much.

Ha, well, I shoot in a lot of mosh pits and whatnot with some frequency. Also, for a while, I was doing nightlife/event photography for the social section of a print publication, which meant going to 3-5 bars/clubs/concerts/parties per night, and that meant the camera got A LOT of wear and tear.

But mostly, I have just sent it in for cleaning about once every 9 months. Shooting at the beach means that something inevitably ends up on my mirror occasionally.

for dust on sensors, this will save you a lot of money. There's a setting on the camera that opens up the shutter for you to quickly blast the dust off.

I have heard from my professional photog friends that using those is a really bad idea because it will just push the dust into other places you can't reach. I don't know how much truth there is to that.

I actually just got back some film I shot at the Point Sur lighthouse in Big Sur a couple weeks ago. I'll try to post some soon.
