Courtney, after selecting automate batch what do i select?
I don't see a watermark option.

First you have to create the automation before you can use the automate batch feature.

So first you open up any random photo to be your sample. You go to the "actions" panel, and set it to record a new action. Then while it is recording, you create a watermark -- add text and image as desired, set the opacity to whatever you want for your watermark, resize it and place it on whatever part of the photo you want. Once you have the watermark exactly how you want it, you stop recording the action.

Now once you have recorded the watermark action, you can use the automate batch feature and select your newly-recorded action.

I hear there are various plug-ins that will do this for you too. I think Russel Brown makes a popular one. But I have always just done it manually.

What's the problem with that? I mean, obviously the image quality is going to be very low res, but it seems like a pretty fun toy to me for just fooling around without having to worry about carrying heavy and expensive equipment. There's a time and place for everything.

First time i had a photo pass at Coachella, i used a phone along with a 3.2 Pentax (my camera broke on the way to get the pass). i got some looks in the pit, but fuck them, i had a pass. Who cares what gear someone else is using in the photo pit? Well, if it's obnoxiously huge lens or a tri-pod that keeps bumping people, then i can see the problem. An iphone? They aren't taking pictures for you, so it shouldn't bother you.

I understand what Chris is saying here about folks with wimpy cameras taking up room in the pit. The problem with a lot of concerts is that the pit is small and they over-extend the number of photo passes offered. This happened at ATP NJ this year, for example.

So, most professional photographers there are on assignment for a specific publication or publications. Often, those assignments are very specific in that you have a list of bands that you are supposed to get multiple good, useable shots of. Often, those bands either conflict with each other, or follow one after the other in a very tight amount of time at different stages.

So, it's incredibly frustrating to run from shooting and one stage to shooting at the next only to discover that the photo pit at the new stage is already full with fauxtographers (yes, I said it) taking all the space and making it nearly impossible for you to do your job because there is no way to move around them to get the angles and shots you need.

Bottom line: When there are a limited number of photographer spaces available at the front of the stage, it seems like a very poor use of resources to allocate any of those spaces to equipment that is going to turn out poor quality product. So I don't have a problem with people fooling around with iphone lenses when they're taking snapshots of their friends at bars or other casual, social purposes, but yes I sure do have a problem if they are in some way effecting my ability to do a job I was hired to do.

This sounds like the "every blogger thinks they're a journalist now" complaint. So how do fauxtographers get photo passes? You can't really discriminate based solely on quality of their equipment. Maybe the real issue is how passes are issued.

I still wish wish to get a photo pass. Never had a chance to shoot under those circumstances, you guys should stop being so dam snobbish. I've gone to multiple shows where I've been on the rail at shows where I've seen a bunch of people with really nice cameras still completely sucking at taking pictures.

Found a Grafitti spot nearby. It was too early and too muddy to get good shots of the place and I was technically trespassing. However I found this guy who tagged most of the place to be fucking hillariously lame. "BOMB" is a stupid name for a graffiti artist in the first place simply because the term "bombing" is already heavily used. It's would be funny in a meta way if he had enough skill to balance out how stupid it is. On top of that "BOMB" is a really fucking stupid name for an Oklahoma Graffiti artist. Also annoying is how he tags multiple walls of this spot with shitty tags, and most of his tags have been at least partially dissed by other tags at this point. This is one of the few that is still whole.

it kindof compromises the one big advantage of camera phones. as if you're going to walk around with 3 of these things jingling around in your pocket? i guess you could carry them in a little satchel, or they'd be good for traveling. with the rapid acceleration of camera technology going the way it is, i really wouldn't be surprised to see a pit dominated by iphones in a few years

He was so-so on taking a hike in the woods to do "some pictures" because he wanted to go swimming at the lake house, but I told him to stick his hand in the water, and obviously he didn't like that (hence the sweatshirt), so photoshoot it was.

Gift giving advice needed.

My girlfriend currently has a Nikon D90 with a standard, non-zooming lens (I know very little about photography). She's been wanting a new lens, and I was thinking of getting her a zoom or telephoto lens for xmas.

Any recommendations or suggestions for a good length to have? She typically shoots pictures of her daughter but would also like the ability to have a zoom lens at the ready if needed.
