where to go in hollywood?

heading to hollywood after coachella and wanted to know..... where can i go to whatch bands pretty much bye strolling up without a ticket, so somewhere we would be able to buy one at the door? let me know names of venues and what types of bands go there please!

You can check out The Knitting Factory for metal/experimental stuff, The Roxy for indie and dance bands, The Whisky a Go Go for metal acts, the Troubadour has indie acts mostly, as do The Henry Fonda, The El Rey, The Echo, The Echoplex and Spaceland. You'll be able to find a show at one of those worth going to.

Seriously the craziest sushi bar I've ever been to. Hard to even describe. Good place to get drunk, eat sushi, and party. Don't let the cheesy website fool ya. I've actually driven up from San Diego multiple times just to go there.

EDIT: Disclaimer - I haven't been there since 2001, so it may have changed a bit. From the pics on their site, it looks like they've done extensive remodeling to the exterior...used to just be a big black wooden door with no sign outside...used to be kind of a scary place.

Just pick up an LA WEEKLY at just about any spot like Amoeba or Virgin etc, and you will find all the info you need for that week, every venue every type of music every club night etc.

10 years ago was the last time I lived in Los Angeles, and it was pretty gross then, too.

somehow we ended up there about a year ago on some random Saturday night, and it was packed with a party full of about 20 extremely drunk gay guys throwing dollars at the girls and screaming like crazy...

gross, whatever.....but it was a highly entertaining scene that evening
