    Default Lack of Punk Music?

Does anyone else feel like there is, in general, a lack of real punk music at Coachella? I'm not talking about fake Blink-182 / Sum 41 / Offspring / emo-pop-punk bands, but bands playing more traditional and hardcore punk... A Dead Kennedy's reunion (with Jello Biafro - which is pretty much impossible...) would be amazing... Or X... The Damned... Bad Brains... The Descendents... Pennywise... Bad Religion... Fugazi... etc.

I know that Gang of Four, The Stooges (the undisputed Godfathers of Punk) and some other punk-type bands have played, but what about bands that are just pure "punk"?

    I'm not complaining... Just sayin'...

    What do you think?

They've never really been there. I'd watch X. Fugazi wouldn't play because the ticket prices are too high. It actually surprised me that The Evens were there.

I'm not sure that those bands really fit the real "vibe" of Coachella. I'm sure they would welcome a Fugazi reunion, but as for the Descendents, Pennywise, Bad Religion-types? Check out the Warped Tour.

Punk is alive and well, in clubs, on stages, in basements and garages across America... It's just not well-represented at Coachella.

I agree, Psy - I have been wanting The Descendants, Bad Religion, Circle Jerks, Rancid even (or an OP IVY REUNION), or Me First and the Gimme Gimmes -- everybody likes them, right? -- for a long long time.

Does anyone know what happened to the lead singer of Op Ivy. I heard he dropped off the face of the earth.

As long as he's alive, there's hope... Actually Rancid usually drops Knowledge and Sound System and few others into the set list. I saw Rancid this year for the first time in YEARS, and I had a great time.

I have said this from day one that I thought Rancid would fit perfectly into Coachella. Although they are more Warped Tour, I think the Coachella crowd would embrace them.

He's been around, a recent Rancid show in Oakland featured Jesse, where they performed, I believe 'Soundsystem'...3/4 of OpIvy ain't too bad.

Exactly my point: Warped tour is a joke. I don't want to go to Warped Tour because I'm personally not that into 95% of the bands that play... I don't want THAT kind of "punk," but I certainly do see a place for some punk music at Coachella. Most punk fans aren't any more violent or ass-hole-ish than RATM fans or Tool fans... (BTW, I'm beyond excited to see Rage play...) So... What's the problem with having more punk at Coachella?

I'd watch Rancid or Op Ivy if they were there. I'm bummed that I missed Rancid on the last tour.

op ivey reunion would be sweeet. rancid would be cool too. although NOFX would be the best!

i agree though that punk doesnt fit the coachella vibe very well, but i like punk, so wouldnt mind it.

    agreed!

i'd love a DK reunion (as impossible as it might seem) and hell, i'd even just love to see jello do some spoken word in a small tent
