Questions for the People of Los Angeles

Go at sunset if you can, for a drop dead gorgeous sight. There are hardly any people. I think it gets a lot more crowded the further south you go, especially around Venice. I'd start at the pier and go north. All the lots down on the beach cost $6+, but there are meters on the cliffs and you can take the stairs down to the beach. I assume you work a normal day job so it would have to be either early in the morning or in the evening. Sometimes after work, I'll drive past my apt on the way home and just take the 10 all the way to PCH and park in one of those parking lots right on the sand to read and watch the sunset. Sometimes the strand is so empty I only see a handful of people running. I would absolutely suggest that if you have the time.

You go south of Venice though and you have an absolutely lovely bike path with very few people on it. You can start in Culver city at the river and just ride toward the beach and then along the coast for a number of miles. I used to ride that path daily when I lived in Marina Del Rey.

If you're going to be that specific, just go up one block and take 6th Street. It's completely residential west of Wilton. You have tons of residential options in Hancock Park and you can cut through those all the way to Hollywood or the West Side. Just trying to help...

I live near 6th. No way that would work unless I went out past midnight. Far too much traffic. You did high intensity interval training along 6th Street? I'm calling BS on that, but I appreciate you willingness to help.

Hey LA, my new job is starting in a couple of weeks and I'm getting a pretty hefty allowance to set my home office. Any recommendations on where to go for office furniture (desks, shelving units, really comfortable ergonomic office chairs, etc.)?

Probably not IKEA. Don't think they offer assembly and I'm am mechanically challenged. It once took me 8 1/2 hours to put together an end table from Target. I wish I was kidding.

I have family in town and want to take them for a short hike in Griffith Park after a big lunch. I've only done a couple of hikes in the area and they were fairly strenuous. Has anyone hiked from the Griffith Observatory Parking Lot to the top of Mt. Hollywood where you supposedly get great views of the LA basin? I believe the hike is only 1 mile? What I'm wondering is... how difficult would you say the hike is? I'm taking a cousin who NEVER hikes so is she going to have a hard time? Scale of 1-10?

For someone who NEVER hikes I'd say it is a 5 or 6. It's more like 1.5 miles I think... The challenge is more the weather at the moment.

If you go slow it's not bad. I have never done it from the observatory parking lot though, can you even do that?

If you do it from the merry go-round lot, just hike up to the first water tower (30 mins?), then climb the stairs and follow the paved fire road to the top, then head west on the ridges over to the weather station or whatever it is above the hollywood sign. You have great views all around up there and the sign is like 20 feet away.
