    Default Drum Cirlces

What is the deal with drum circles and why is 1am the ideal time for them? No matter what level I am on I never find them the least bit entertaining. What am I missing? They just seem repetetive and annoying...

i guess its only fun if you are in fact PART of a drum circle. i can see how being a spectator would get old real quick.

Thank god I have never had one of these near me......

I always pass out with in ear phones on with howard stern.

So a lot of noises from the campground don't bother me.

For newbies bring ear plugs if your camping....

Drum circles are surely like stylophones and whistling, in that they can only possibly be fun to the participants.

I heard but didn't see a truly awesome drum circle camping overnight at the Gorge after Tool. Shit was insane, just kept building and went on all night. I wanted to go check it out but had already wandered the campgrounds tripping, lost for about an hour and was afraid I might not find my way back.

In 1991, during testimony before the United States Senate Special Committee on Aging, Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart stated:
Typically, people gather to drum in drum "circles" with others from the surrounding community. The drum circle offers equality because there is no head or tail. It includes people of all ages. The main objective is to share rhythm and get in tune with each other and themselves. To form a group consciousness. To entrain and resonate. By entrainment, I mean that a new voice, a collective voice, emerges from the group as they drum together. [1]

I think you got the quote wrong...

Typically, people gather to drum in drum "circles" with others from the surrounding community. The drum circle offers equality because no one can get any sleep. It includes self-centered people of all ages. The main objective is to share rhythm and get in tune and bother each other and themselves. To form a group unconsciousness and complete mind numbness. To entrain and resonate. By entrainment, I mean that a new voice, a collective incessant noise with no meaning, emerges from the group as they drum together.

No that is not a drum circle, what you are referring to, is your city (LA) in general ... cr****

I was camping on Vancouver Island several years ago and met this group of "hippies" on the beach who had this fire and drum circle going on ....

we ate some blue honey and drummed all night next to the fire....it was pretty awesome in my opinion

i agree that circles can be annoying at 500 in the morning if you are trying to sleep, but hey, late night, no real instuments around, get a little stoned, and it can be a pretty fun thing .... cr**** and vancouver island is awesome anyway ....

I can agree that drum circles can be very appealing in the right forum.

I wouldn't consider LA my city just because I have lived here a few years, and can agree with you if I am going to generalize on the whole. But what we are discussing here is drum circles at coachella, specifically, and how they are more annoying than LA stop-and-go traffic at 1 am.

Drum circles are rad when you're in them, but for sleepers nearby I can understand the annoyance.
