Okay, so I've just turned 18. I'm a firm believer that to fully get the whole Coachella experience, you need to camp on-site. That being said, I figured I'd consult people who've camped at Coachella before. Do you recommend camping, and why or why not? I'd also love to hear tips, lessons learned from horrible personal experiences, etc.

I understand that people want to get personalized responses, but if you just use the search engine (I know that it's complicated as fuck, but you can figure it out) you can answer pretty much any question that you may have about virtually anything regarding Coachella. Now (hopefully not) people will be rude and will flame you for creating an unnecessary thread that has been answered many times in the past. Then you will not understand why people are so rude on this board and a flame war will ensue that you will probably lose against the posters with 1,000+ hp. You will then say how Bonarroo is better, their boards are nicer, etc. Then you will get fed up with it and vow never to go to Coachella and spend your hard earned money towards bonarroo or something. And we'll probably never see you 'round these parts again for a while.

I hope this doesn't happen, but I've seen it happen many times.

    /end rant.

Also, camping is great if you're not high maintenance. I would recommend it at least once. Don't camp by the port-a-potties. Bring earplugs if you're looking to sleep a little. Bring shade. Be friendly, and get to know your neighbors.

How can you say that with any authority if you've never camped before?

Word of mouth from people who have camped and asserted previous statement.

I'll check out the other threads.

I second you on that, I've been on camping site twice ('07 & '08) and it is awesome... you get to know cool people and party a lot more than hotelers, and I mean it. Don't hesitate and go get your stuff ready dude! ;D

camping is great especially if you have some cool people around you, just dont do it if you're one of those people who turns into a bitch/dick if you go a few days without getting some solid sleep. and also just pray that you dont end up next to the couple of doom that i ended up next to at my first year there last year and my brother had the same thing the year before.... nothing like waking up first thing in the morning to a man who hates his life being bickered at for not brushing his teeth yet.

Coachella main page says no alcohol allowed on the campground. Can this be true? I can't imagine hanging out with a bunch of campers without having a couple beers?

Yeah, I read that whole thread before posting, the only mention of alcohol was that it is needless to say you should bring it. I also did a search for alcohol, and read several other threads with no mention. Rather than start a new thread, I decided an existing "Camping Advice" thread would suffice. Fact still remains, Coachella.com says alcohol is not allowed, and security checks you as you enter the campground, thus my inquiry. I figure I could have read the 10,000 posts on the "Party All Weekend" thread, but asking might save me about 5 weeks.

I heard there is a bar, but I would rather drink my own booze than pay $6 for a cocktail, and $4 for a beer, and I assume buying drinks from the bar means you have to drink them in a restricted area?

I would much rather hang out in front of my tent with a cooler full of beer, but it sounds like that is not possible, which really is a deal breaker for me. I have never been to Coachella, and would love to go, but if you're not allowed to drink cheap booze at your tent, that is tough to comprehend.

I'm just curious as a newbie to see what it is like there. PM me for info/tips, and we can let this thread die.

how do people actually manage to sneak it in? seems like it would be pretty tough... we usually just do our drinking out in the parking lot, just have to look out for the police officers patrolling the area.

    Hi,
This is Steven. I am new member to this site. I can advice the camping. I think Camping is great especially if you have some cool people around you, just don't do it if you're one of those people who turns into a bitch/dick if you go a few days without getting some solid sleep. and also just pray that you don't end up next to the couple of doom that i ended up next to at my first year there last year and my brother had the same thing the year before.... nothing like waking up first thing in the morning to a man who hates his life being bickered at for not brushing his teeth yet.Thank you very much for giving a chance.

I did it last year for the first time, and absolutely loved it...trippin out on those cool colored lights streaming out over the grounds was amazing...

Don't expect to get any sleep once the sun comes up...

    Air mattresses suck...

Take showers, even though you think taking them will suck because of all the people gooing the place up...you'll feel better with some cold water washing away the heat...

Bring food...snack things, bread, nuts, snack bars, canned tuna, whatever...I got all that in last year...

It gets cold as shit at night...

Groove on all the night time action...walk around and take it all in...get into pointless conversations with stoners wandering around...it'll open yer mind...

It was a scene, and I'm glad I did it..and am going to again this year...wouldn't miss it for the world!
