Arrive Thursday Evening or Friday morning??

this will be our first coachella and will be driving from vegas after arriving from the Uk on Wednesday.

was thinking what veterans of the festival would suggest is the best time to arrive?

2 options are

1. collect rental from vegas on thursday afternoon and drive straight to coachella campsite - what goes on on Thursday??

2. collect rental as above but take road trip to say somewhere around 10 to 15 miles out of coachella stay in cheap hotel then get over to site on friday morning?

any advise welcome

I say stay Thursday night. The campground is very exciting then, and also, it guarantees you'll get into the venue mad early Friday and see as much music as you can.

Thursday for sure! Nothing like the campground nightlife. I would highly recommend enjoying it as many nights as possible!

I always show up between 10am-12pm on Thursday. You get a good campsite and plenty of time to setup camp and walk around while it's not too crazy. Plus they have their Thursday night movie/Laserium/whatever thing that's usually fun.

Get there and setup ASAP! Those lines can get pretty insanely long.
Plus you have to stand outside of a chain link fence and look at all your fellow campers having fun on the other side. At that point minutes seems like hours to me. I have to admit I was definitely one of the first 50 people on the camp ground. Along with the dude with the colorful shirt, heading the solo group. What was his name Chiapet? you know who im talking about... Tall guy. Hmmmm
Anyway I like to be setup and partying by dark thurs. Kick off the weekend!!

Thursday. It's the best night to hang out and party at the campsite. The other nights you might be to tired from the festival. Plus you'll meet a bunch of people a get even more amped on the Festival!

Likewise. It's nice to be set up before noon- then you have the whole rest of the day to get food, or help other people set up, or go somewhere, or drink $8 beers.

That said, I usually fly into Palm Springs on Wednesday and spend a night in a hotel... I like to acclimate to the heat in a climate-controlled environment for a day before I start camping.

i only skimmed this Burning Man thread on tents in the desert, but it has some good discussion in the parts i got.

I didn't ask him if he was comfortable in his tent. As it was, he was stumbling around the festival about to pass out from heat exhaustion. I made him go lie down in the Blue Room.

good resource. might try the double layer camo technique with some foil on the morning sun side of the tent. all that with a tent fan = sleeping til at least 9am.

we can't all be as lucky as i am and able to sleep at least until 9 am if not later... tent fans are good
