Thread: Blur

    whatev. my op.

yeah, i knew the few >'s on No Doubt would piss off the Radiohead/Morrissey/Neil Young crowd...

i wasn't worried about pissing off the Coldplay or JJ crowd though, they can't readz.

and Killers fans wouldn't know who the fuck Blur are, so they won't click on this thread...

but seriously, i'd rather see No Doubt than Radiohead at this point, and not only because i haven't seen No Doubt yet... yeah Neil Young might be more epic than Blur, but i'd much more enjoy a Blur set.

I'm cool with Blur being there, but as a headliner/co-headliner? I don't buy that....then again last year nobody bought Jack Johnson and Porstishead as headliners either.

However, after said performances...Portishead proves themselves worthy...and folks took a well needed nap during JJ.

As cool as that would be, I don't see the Gallagher brothers wanting to share a day with Blur. They're not exactly the best of friends. If they did share a day, they'd probably want to play against each other, and that would be horrible, and it'd be the 90s all over again.

    This is true.

I think Blur could pull a co-headliner spot, but as a headliner... As much as I love Blur, we are in America, and Blur are not exactly a big thing here, so they probably couldn't headline.

Unless... Goldenvoice calls upon the forces of darkness... Britney Spears in the Sahara Tent. She may suck hard, but perhaps, as Madonna had done in 2006, Britney could sell the remaining tickets that Blur couldn't.

Or they could just get a damn good line-up underneath Blur: The Strokes, Pulp, Underworld, Nine Inch Nails (in its new, smaller iteration), and other cool bands.

Think Tank is pretty much not Blur in my opinion because you don't have Graham Coxon in the mix.

I was criticized for my lack of singles, but if you don't like the mix, you probably won't like Blur, singles or not. (There are some singles on there though.)

Depends on the band. Some bands have only good singles and not so much good albums and non-single tracks.

"Gorillaz had a popular song 5 years ago."

I don't think that's relevant. Gorillaz would draw a lot of people.

Uh. I assure you that it is relevant. How do you think Jack Johnson headlined last year? The average ticket buyer for Coachella is not the type of music fan on these boards. Never forget the power of the general public. Not saying Gorillaz wouldn't draw some people in, but no way shape or form could they be considered a headliner.

Uh... in 03 Blur was billed below Queens of The Stones, Ben Harper and The Beastie Boys. Why in 2009 would Blur be a headliner? If Blur headline, or are even the main subheadliner, that would be a HUGE step down for Coachella.

Also, remember a day or two before the line up was released last year, NME and another source both said that The Verve were headlining a day of Coachella, when really they were subheadlining. Just keep that in mind...

I think you might be on to something Joshy...also..Blur's 2003 was kind of a bummer...for me anyways..I was pretty disappointed with it..

on a odd note...2003 was also the year when Jack Joshnson was a subheadliner on Sunday...right before The White Stripes...

Seriously. I remember him saying that they're fine for "brit pop." That's no different than kit kit saying Gorillaz are a marketing gimmick. I will be extremely happy if Blur is at Coachella next year.

best case scenario for all this talk would be 7pm on Friday: blur on the main, killers on the outdoor, freshly cleaned bathrooms, and a stocked lemon ice cart.
