The funniest part to me was the guy impersonating Jay-Z having his back turned until he was up... And DMX.

The Jay-z impersonators voice was on point. I really appreciated Waka Flockas commitment to being intense. It looked like the vein in his head was about to pop out. Plus I really enjoyed his Spongebob Squarepants lyrics about him, Gucci and Spongebob living under the sea.

Action Bronson is really one of the freshest dudes to come out in a while. I like his whole style...especially the multiple references to food and cooking in all his raps.

I make the consumme with the lobsta head

    yeahhh, bronson goes in

I posted him in here like a year ago and Dylanja shot em down...... and then a few months later we learn he'd never even listened to J Dilla.... and the truth comes out.

But really how do you make the "Hip-Hop 102 thread", with a specific dig at people in the OP for listening to Hip-hop 101, and you've never listened to J Dilla?

This is probably one of my top 5 most played rap songs of the past 3 months or so. Can't find the mp3 anywhere so I think I've watched this youtube video about a hundred times now.

Haha...I don't know. It's shocking because for music fans in general and hip hop fans for sure, J Dilla is generally loved when listened to.

Looking at his original post, it seems to me like he's probably heard a Dilla produced track, he just wasn't aware of it.

This shit is terrible. Is this really what you douchebags consider to be advanced hip hop? Rhyming head with head?

    Hahahaha...you're an angry little elf!!!

Its not so bad that you need to throw around words like "douchebag" but we all express our frustration in various ways. Besides the fact that he rhymed head with head in one freestyle is okay with me, he's proven his skill with words in the past. Now if your "advance" comment is in regards to this being the Hip Hop 102 page then I must apologize. I had no idea that was the content. However I do believe while it may have started out that way, it has definitely changed course to become a discussion on hip hop in general. Which in that case, it doesn't matter if this is advanced but instead it must be hip hop someone was willing to share because they enjoy/want to discuss/etc....which I do. I enjoy it quite a bit because though he sounds like Ghostface and looks like Brooklyn's version of John Candy, he says some pretty interesting things and sounds good saying them. You should check out his catalog and not be so quick to judge based on one freestyle.

Its all good. As long as you discovered him. I wish more people would give props to an artist like him.

Action Bronson is definitely advanced. Regardless of how advanced this thread is supposed to be. (especially if thread starter doesn't know who jay dee is)

I posted about these guys in the 2012 releases thread but forgot to drop it in here too. This group called Clear Soul Forces, out of Detroit. Amazing lyricists, really cool group dynamic and laid-back Dilla vibe. Perfect, basically. They have their record up on their Bandcamp for free if you want it: http://www.clearsoulforces.bandcamp.com/

Here we will discuss Hip Hop theory, beat boxing, beat production, break dancing, battling, cyphering, word play, djing, multi-syllable rhyming, freestyling, content, delivery and swagger. I can appreciate most hip-hop for one aspect or other but I do find most radio rap to be utterly useless beyond the production.

Some godfathers of hip hop are KRS-1, Rakim, Big Daddy Kane and Kool G Rap. Almost any respectable emcee will credit one of these four as an influence.

KRS-ONE letting you know hip hop is NOT dead and in case you missed it in 101 a refresher course.

These four birthed the next generation which includes some of the most popular rappers of all time. Artist such as Jay-Z, Biggie, Tupac, Nas, Wu-Tang Clan and N.W.A.

The Gravel Pit by the eclectic Wu-Tang Clan.

There is also a generation of conscious rappers, they choose to rap about ideas, concepts and past experiences opposed to materialistic objects. Common, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Pharoahe Monch and The Roots all fall in this category. The aforementioned godfathers blended conscious ideas with materialism which made them simply, AWESOME!

BlackStar ft. Common - Respiration (a fucking classic!)

This concludes the first lesson. I know I've unjustly excluded some greats such as A Tribe Called Quest and De La Sol among others in this first section, please forgive me. I will do my best to update and add on in the coming days....

Man, where is hip hop 101? I like this but I want my TCQ and de la soul!!

This new Kilo Kish song is amazing. Kish herself is only vaguely hip-hop, but Flatbush Zombies are on here (who I'm not normally a fan of but the sound great on this) so I figured I'd post it in here:

    http://soundcloud.com/kilo-kish/creepwave/s-eODjb
her EP Homeschool that came out last year is excellent.

is there any way to embed soundcloud on here?
