I love Bone Thugs.
I love Bone Thugs.
5/12 - Acid Mothers Temple - Casbah
5/13 OoOoOo - Soda Bar
5/19 Black Angels / Hanni El Khatib - Belly Up
5/29 Junip - Troubadour
5/30 John Talabot - Echoplex
6/2 Bjork - Hollywood Palladium
I can't wait for both of these releases.
The upcoming DOOM/Jneiro Jarel collaboration-- under the name JJ DOOM-- will apparently feature Damon Albarn and Portishead's Beth Gibbons on a track. "Just did a song with Beth of Portishead and Damon Albarn!", Jarel tweeted this weekend, as Consequence of Sound points out. The album, called Keys to the Kuffs, was originally scheduled for a May release through Lex Records, but that seems unlikely at this point.

Also:
The single from Oh No's album Ohnomite is the DOOM track "3 Dollars", pressed on 5-inch vinyl. Stones Throw will have copies of these shipping by June 11th. CD & 2LP copies of the album Ohnomite are shipping now.
The label Five Day Weekend is making the 5-inch single available with two covers, the first with Oh No and Doom on either side of the record. The second cover will have the images superimposed. The illustration is by Charles Munka, design by Jeff Jank.

Canibus vs. Dizaster this Saturday available to view live through online PPV for $30.
All of the regulars from the current battle circuit are expecting a Dizaster victory. He's widely regarded as the best battler out by quite a large margin. Personally, he reminds me quite a bit of Chino XL. I can't wait to watch it!
The rest of the card is pretty solid too.
Usher is my favorite rapper, his new cd is gonna be da bomb.

I'm kinda new around these parts. I thought I'd make my introduction by giving some of my thoughts on Hip Hop this year including my favorite albums and mixtapes. I look forward to seeing what you all thought about Hip Hop in 2012.
Albums (in reverse order):
Mhz - Mhz Legacy - strong return
Ab-Soul - Control System - can this camp make bad music?
Nas - Life is Good -
Homeboy Sandman - First of a Living Breed - this dude is a dope lyricist
Killer Mike - R.A.P. Music - perfect marriage of rap/production
El-P - Cancer 4 Cure - he's never disappointed me
Brother Ali - Mourning in America and Dreaming in Color - Us made me wonder if he was falling off, this album more like it
Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, The Heist - I've always liked him since the Town. This album is going to blow up and I'm okay with that.
Kendrick Lamar - G.O.O.D. Kid, m.a.a.d. music - This album makes my Hip Hop Classics list, great from top to bottom
Mixtapes:
The Kid Daytona - The Kid with the Golden Pen - this guy quietly releases solid music
Big K.R.I.T. 4Eva N A Day - not his greatest, does he have better in him?
Heems - Wild Water Kingdom - shockingly very good, I thought he needed Kool A.D., we shall see won't we
One Be Lo - K.I.C.K.P.U.S.H - I wish him and Senim Silla would reunite to play Masters of the Universe, he just makes good music
Big Sean - Detroit - he may not have dope lyrics, but he can flow
Action Bronson - Blue Chips - one of the best releases of the year, I would've paid money for this
Joey Bada$$ - 1999 - one of the best releases of the year, I would've paid money for this also
Disappointments
Murs/Fashawn album
Good Music Comp
Iggy Azalea/Kreayshawn sadly not the emergence of badass white females who can rap......I shouldn't say that, I didn't care long enough to listen.
Das Racist breaking up
Crazy Assessments in 2012 many people didn't like to hear me say.....
Kanye West has surpassed Jay-Z as a lyricist at this point in his career, not all time, but right now I think Kanye rhymes better than Jay-z. This may change due to Kanye's current lifestyle/girlfriend choice.
These aren't my favorites necessarily, but here are my most under-appreciated and/or overlooked rap releases for 2012 in no order:
Cashius Green - Sunny Side Up (http://indy.livemixtapes.com/mixtape...y_side_up.html)
Khris P Kream - YES (http://atrilli.net/2012/05/mixtape-khris-p-yes/)
Pyramid Vritra - Pyramid (http://hypetrak.com/2012/08/pyramid-...id-free-album/)
Vince Staples & Michael Uzowuru - Winter In Prague (http://www.datpiff.com/Vince-Staples...pe.406684.html)
Tree - Sunday School (https://soundcloud.com/mctreeg/sets/...deluxe-version)
Tree x 110% Pure - TRILLIN (http://www.spin.com/blogs/first-spin...ixtape-trillin)
Iamsu! - $uzy 6 $peed (http://www.livemixtapes.com/mixtapes...zy-6-peed.html)
Jay Ant & Iamsu! - Stoopid (http://indy.livemixtapes.com/mixtape...u_stoopid.html)
I'm waiting until the year is over to make my absolute best-of list.
Thanks for steering me in that direction.....I checked them out and definitely enjoyed some of those rappers.
I will be downloading some mixtapes today.....I want to hear more from Cashius Green, Pyramid Vritra, Iamsu, Jay Ant, and Vince Staples.
Fuckin Problems is a super catchy song!! excited for ASAP's new album!!
also, has anyone seen Snoop Dogg recently? still does all the rap classics? Seeing him tonight by himself.
I am beyond stoked that "Pretty Flacco" made the A$AP album.
3/13-3/17 - SXSW - Austin
4/11 - The Shouting Matches - Pappy & Harriets
4/12-4/14 - Coachella Music & Arts Festival - Empire Polo Grounds
4/16 - Sigur Ros - Fox Theater Oakland
4/19 - Sigur Ros - Santa Barbara Bowl
4/22 - The Gaslight Anthem - Belly Up Tavern
6-2 - CHVRCHES - Belly Up Tavern
6/7-6/9 - Governors Ball Music Festival w/ Kanye West - Governors Island NYC
Fuckin Problems is really catchy and good. I hope the album is good. I didn't really enjoy ASAP at coachella.
Is anyone as excited as me for the Big Boi album. If we can't get Outkast for Coachella, maybe at least Big Boi????
