The new Roots album Undun is spectacular. Im also really digging Therapy at 3 from Eligh (Living Legends) and Amp Live (Zion-I).

Yeah I also really like the new Roots album. Some super poppy hooks but solid throughout.

I'm not a huge fan of the production, but I understand that's what they were going for with the concept album.

Soo through my (mostly feeble) efforts to find newer rappers that I actually enjoy, I came across this dude....

    (Return of the Mack cover)

From these two songs I know by him, I can say I really like his production. He has that westcoast sound (the synths) I love and doesnt seem to overdo autotune

Anyone know more about this guy? Is he worth exploring more?

Just mentioned this in another thread, but I feel I should call more attention too it, because its really a great CD imo.... The Doggumentry by Snoop Dogg is like surprisngly good. It might be better than Doggystle. It has a G-funk feel, but is also really experimental. Got two tracks with Bootsy Collins, a track with Willie Nelson, one with The Gorillaz, a tune with Daz and E-40.

    Here are some samples

The hook is what makes this tune. I love the dreamy feel. Beat is meh

    Shabazz Palaces' Ishmael Butler-

    10. The alien I saw working in a kebab shop in Berlin. He looked like a slightly melting Arab Gary Shandling. I knew something was funny by watching him move, it was something in the way it poured the tahini. Then a weird incandescent light was pouring out of his ears, sort of like honey. He peeped me noticing, saw the confused horror explode through my expression and moved in a time folding way, like a film jumping. It looked shocked like a young boy that was discovered stealing quarters from his moms purse to play Galaga at the corner store. I backed away into the door and almost broke through it but then it said something that sounded like "xeeulis" or something and I felt comfort like never before. We spoke for about an hour but everything it said I immediately forgot. Except this: that Kanye West was the greatest artist of any kind in the history of man.
Uh. Dude definitely has been through some wormholes...

I don't see anyone talking about Murs Love and Rockets, Volume 1: The Transformation. I'm finally getting around to listening to it, and I think it's pretty fucking great.

Anyone here like J-Zone? I recently learned of him and have been listening to Pimps Don't Pay Taxes quite a bit. Listened to A Job Ain't Nuthin' But Work today and it's awesome and funny. I love this guy's sense of humor and the samples he uses.
We're here to play some Mississippi Delta Blues. We're in a horrible depression, and I gotta admit - we're starting to like it.

This has potential. Stones Throw is releasing it...and as a result, it is chalk full of Stones Throw artists. Guilty Simpson FTW.

Geoff Barrow of Portishead has a new hip-hop project, Quakers, as the Guardian (via Beats Per Minute) points out. Stones Throw will release their 41-track album this spring, samples from which are available here.

Barrow helped produce the record under the name "Fuzzface," working with Portishead engineer 7STU7 and Australia's DJ Katalyst. Over 35 artists contributed, including Dead Prez, Prince Po, Guilty Simpson, and Aloe Blacc.

As the Guardian notes, Katalyst describes the album as "a pretty dirty, heavy, kind of lo-fi hip-hop record." The recordings started with beats he posted to MySpace, which were available for anyone to download, rap over, and send in for consideration.

Watch a performance of Portishead's "Chase the Tear" after the tracklisting:

    01 Intro
02 Big Cat [ft. Synato Watts]
03 Fitta Happier [ft. Guilty Simpson & MED]
