Thread: Two Boots Pizza

    Default Two Boots Pizza

I mentioned this joint in the New York thread & then remembered hearing they were going to open a store in L.A. a while back. So, I went to check the status on that & here is what I found.

Get ready to rejoice all you Pizza eating hipsters!

I fucking love the Bayou Beast!

Two Boots never really impressed me in New York... their sauces struck me as using pepper to cover up a basic lack of good tomato flavor. Although I guess in Echo Park, you can't be too picky when it comes to pizza.

Don't get me wrong, there are other pizza parlors I prefer to Two Boots that are true to the NY style scattered about Manhattan, Queens & most notably Brooklyn. Two Boots is a great alternative if you're looking for a different type of slice. Their whole deal is that it's a fusion between Lousiana & Italian flavors, hence the spicyness of their sauces. I used to find great comfort in getting me a slice of their Sicilian type of slice called "The Red" or the "Bayou Beast", which is covered w/ crawfish, on my way home in Alphabet City or before a screening at the know defunct Pioneer Theater.

Two Boots is pretty terrible if you ask me. There's a few dozen other pizza places i'd rather go to if I'm in Manhattan

well, I definitely wouldn't count this amongs NY's finest pizza. It's quite different than your normal variety. This parlour is more in tune with Abbots. Not all the pies fancy my flavor, but if you're looking to be adventurous this is a good place to go. I think it's the ambiance that also gets me.

If you're looking for a classic pie then yes Damiano's is a decent place to go. Rocco's is very good too.

They win for having a Larry Tate , Tony Clifton, AND a Mel Cooley. Damn, I want a Boylan's Ginger Ale right now.

These Pizza places that everyone hypes up are always a disappointment. The pizza is usually great, but not great enough to justify the price (and the wait in some cases...I waited 90 minutes for a seat at Apizza Scholls in Portland.)
