Default 2007 Lineup vs 2008 Lineup

hey this forum is extremely boring so i figure i'd spice it up a bit. What yr was better?

Personally, being a bit of a hip hop fan, i found that the 2007 Lineup is absolute killer. It just fits my taste and I don't know how long it will take for Coachella to top that.

But I mean, i might be personally bias towards the lineup, being that I didnt go to 2008.

Let's hope 2009 is amazing, because i miss the beautiful weather mixed with all the wonderful generous people. 2007 was my first yr and I was really blown away with how kind people are on the westcoast. sigh i really hate jersey.
What happen if someone make a crime?

Do you watch full sets, or jump around during the day? 2007 looks like it would have been impossible to see all those.

Again, probably a bit of personal bias because it was my first year and practically changed my life, but 2007 no question. I actually had more free time that year though, but those acts I did see rank as some of the best ever. It was all about Sonic Youth on Friday, Arcade Fire on Saturday, and Rage on Sunday. I couldn't have asked for any better (until my visit to Bonnaroo this year.) But 2008 was much more busy, so I'll give it that. Plus it featured Animal Collective and My Morning Jacket, so what can ya say there...

Totally agree... and you and I are probably one of the few. All three 07 headliners were mindblowing, for me, and it was just Saturday for 08.

2008 had a better lineup. Aphex Twin, Kraftwerk, and Portishead alone top 2007.

2007's line-up was insane. Like most, I had zero downtime. And the conflicts were just... harsh. Where's 2008, while good was just.... not as intense? Most of the bands playing had had at least one tour stop in LA in the winter before Coachella. So... 2007>2008.

how did you feel about sunday of 2008 out of curiosity... sunday of 2008 was one of the weaker days they have had almost all the bands had already played in la that year (even roger waters with his 3 days at the bowl and one in irvine) i really only was there to see a few bands sunday... portishead wasnt really a trump card if you lived in la you could have just went and saw them at the mayan theatre on the thursday before coachella...

standing around with a ton of people or being in a small venue watching them play with better sound.....

prince did blow it away but again would you rather see prince with a ton of people outdoors or at a small venue like i did when he played at the rosevelt hotel....

i am all about bands in small venues. even bands i dont like very much

Sunday was weak, but then, I didn't have much energy so I didn't see much music. It didn't matter, MMJ was great Sunday and Justice was fun... But Saturday of 08 was the best day of live music I've ever had. (Not all of us who go to Coachella live in LA or are lucky enough to see Portishead's rehearsal show either, btw. Pretty rare event for me and many others, Prince, too. And The Verve.)

Bjork and Arcade Fire were amazing in '07, and there were some other good ones, but nothing compares to Kraftwerk-->Portishead-->Prince. C'mon dude.

ill get flammed but i am not really into kraftwerk or portishead. saw kraftwerk the last time they were at coachella, its a cool show to watch but the music isnt to my likeing, was watching islands/animal collective instead... also wasnt too impressed with portishead at coachella (the rehersal sounded better) but you have to know i really dont care for portishead that much (only went to the rehersal cause it was free and wanted to see what the hype was about and i did enjoy the 3rd album). prince was fantastic (better than the roosevelt hotel shows).

friday 07 was my favorite day...the jesus and mary chain--> jarvis cooker-->sonic youth-->bjork was more my style and i hadnt ever got to see jarvis or JAMC

I just...I don't know how anyone couldn't enjoy that Portishead show. I'm almost speechless. 'Twas the greatest show I've ever seen, personally.

To each their own. Bjork ruled, we can at least agree on that. Declare Independence!!

As posted above, each year is unique. For me, 2007 was better because it contained a lineup that better matched my interests... and because I had no major conflicts. In fact, Friday 2007 was probably my best night at Coachella, while Friday 2008 was probably my most frustrating (conflict hell!).

For me, 2008 was improved by having a reunion with some lifelong friends who flew out from the east coast. Also, each year, I enjoy discovering new music, and there were some gems on the 2008 lineup.

I wish that I had been more organized in 2004 and 2005, as those rank alongside 2007 as my favorite years. Finally, since adding the third day, I have found Sunday to be my slowest days, but I haven't minded having pleasant surprises (like Rodrigo y Gabriela).

2008 for sure. 2007 was great and all, but Kraftwerk--->Portishead--->Prince just absolutely crushes any chances 2007 had. Plus when you factor in that the vibe was soooo much better in 2007 due to the fact that RATM wasn't there its an easy decision.

This is a tough one, in 07 i saw some amazing sets by bands i had never seen live like the Silversun Pickups and the Arcade Fire, and it was pretty epic seeing Rage play for the first time in seven years, also great sets by Interpol, Bjork, & the Rapture, However i became alot more familiar with some more of the under cards in 08 and saw alot more sahara acts as well, highlights would be; Cut Copy, MGMT, Boys Noize, M.I.A., Prince, Deadmau5, Does it Offend You Yeah, Roger Waters, & Justice, I think i'd have to go with 08! Also in 07 i went with my girlfriend at the time and in 08 i was single and have to say i had alot more fun going single, it was amazing and fun both weekends but the slight edge goes to 08!! hopefully 09 will blow 08 away
