apparently lots, there was a debate on here about that at one point if i remember correctly haha. even though they are technically the same thing i'd much rather see a live soulwax set over a 2manydjs set any day of the week.

Operative word being "kinda".
2manydj's - Dave and Steph Dewaele, DJ/VDJ set, mostly others' material
Soulwax - the aforementioned plus Stefaan Van Leuven and Steve Slingeneyer, live band, original material (except remixes and some covers).
Now while I realize Dave and Steph are the "guts" of Soulwax, I would hardly call the other two just touring or session musicians. Van Leuven has been the bassist since the first album, and Slingeneyer has been around since Much Against Everyone's Advice (he didn't record that album, but he came back to record Any Minute Now and tour since).

^you're probably right.

With the curfew extended till 1:00 we could easily fit them in Saturday, i would say Friday but wouldn't want them to play against Jay-Z.
If they are playing at HARD this summer then why not?
Modest Mouse, YYY, The XX, Postal Service, Blur, Franz Ferdinand, James Blake, Grimes, Wild Belle, Yeasayer, Wild Nothing, Tame Impala, Jake Bugg, Jessie Ware, The Selecter, The Faint, Tegan & Sara, The 2 Bears, Violent Femmes, OMD, Vampire Weekend, New Order, The Evens, Robert DeLong, Savages, Parov Stelar Band
Coachella: 04, 05, 06, 07, 08, 09, 2010
Outside Lands: 08, 2010, 2012
Easy there. "Soulwax" does many mixes. Please tell me how the "band" has remixed Gravity's Rainbow or Get Innocuous. The remixes have no live instruments, it's all clearly programming, and I doubt there is any production credits going to Steve or Stephan.
It's not that cut and dry, so get off your high horse. Let's end this stupid thread.

this is a really bad comparison but okay.
from PIAS...
"whilst it may be true to say that in the grand scheme of it all; that Soulwax are 2 Many DJs, 2 Many Djs however is not the sum of soulwax as a whole."
its purposefully ambiguous but they even refer to 2many Djs as alter egos of soulwax. its not a side or solo project, but a monicker taken up by the two core members of soulwax when they DJ.

this should clear up any confusion on the debate
WOW! Thanks for the info. Yes, I've seen Soulwax live 3 times now. In all seriousness, yes. No really, yes. Did I say yes?
This is not a question about Nite Versions. This is also not about them playing any of their "remixes" live. This is about certain of their produced recorded remixes (e.g. on "Most of the remixes..."). My two examples were put up for a reason. If you are so wise to how they produced them, please tell me the specific parts that were played by Steve or Stephaan on the recording. That was my only point. Either Steve is the most amazing, spot on, accurate, precise, infallible drummer out there, or they are using programmed drums in many of their recorded remixes. And if you don't think they are programmed drums, I would suggest you play one of the records to a click track and notice how they don't waver a bit.
I get they can play a song like Tiga's "Move my Body" live. Recorded, this was all programmed by Tiga. Live, combo of programming and live instruments/acoustic drums by Soulwax.
If I'm wrong, I'll admit it. I just think you are making the assumption that whatever they do live is what they would do in the studio to record a remix, and I disagree with that assumption. If you have evidence to the contrary, please enlighten me.

FYI w/r/t "move my body" they play it live because they produced it. Tiga recorded some shit that sounded like shit and hired soulwax to make it good and they produced the hell out of it (a.k.a. they did the same thing they do for any "Soulwax Remix"). Soulwax are actually given production credits on a lot of Tiga's material.
PS. I also think the drummer and bassist contribute on a lot of the remixes, at least the ones they play live (not 100% on this but they do tend to have characteristic kicks and basslines that, if not written by the drummer and bassist, were likely at least recorded as samples and then taken into production)
Hopefully for 2012??It will have been 5 years.
If they are on schedule with their new album, it should be released before the end of 2011.
only post here if there is new/good news.
They're still doing the Under The Covers sets for the most part. If they finish up Radio Soulwax this year, maybe we could see them in April. I pray that we do.
