just because they sell like crazy...

those of us who recognize better music should forget Rolling Stone even exists and see it for what it is, a very mainstream music publication that is highly fixated on the pop music world, because that's where the money is

I finally heard them for the first time a few weeks ago. I guess if I had a 10 year old girl, I'd be happy if she was into them. I mean, it resembles music. They resemble a band. It certainly didn't annoy me (but I heard one song once, so...)

I'd just like to take the time to say that Rolling Stone really surprised me with how good their list was last year. Call me a neo-baby boomer if you must, but from someone who reads Pitchfork and similar publications on a daily basis, and rarely picks up a copy of RS, (my friend gets it and it's always lying around his house), their 2007 list was actually the publication closest to my own.

With that said, outside of their choice for #1, this list is obviously bullshit. I'll go out on a limb and assume that Mr. World's Shittiest-and-Least-Relevant Music Critic, Robert Christgau, personally assembled it himself. That man really needs to retire.

pancakes, where in SD are you from?

Also, I think that Fricke and Taibbi are the only people worth reading RS for anymore.

I think 'Dear Science' isn't a bad choice for #1, although it's not mine. Lists like this should probably be separated by genre though. Their #1 for reissues (Dennis Wilson's 'Pacific Ocean Blue') is a GREAT choice

By the way that issue has one of the funniest articles I've read in a long long time, about 'real life superheroes'

I have over 400 albums released in 2008. Anyone who thinks he has a definitive Top 50 is full of shit.

I do, but I'm anti-board clutter. If I feel ambitious I'll PM you.

If Bob Dylan saved up his jizz for a year, and then molded it into the shape of records, and released it as a limited edition box set, it would top any Rolling Stone list, even if said list was about the top 50 Arabic transsexual rappers of the last 10 years. Robert Plant would probably be on there somewhere too.

RS has been ridiculously out of touch for at least 25 years.

That dude is still around? They portrayed him as some aging reclusive drug addict or something who hated Rolling Stone with a fierey passion, whose career was at it's end, and who probably had ten years to live before an inevitable OD. Or did my memory exaggerate itself?

In any case, if he is still alive, RS should replace Robert Satan Christgau with him without even thinking twice. He seemed awesome.

EDIT: Nevermind, I now see that it was a link to 1973 review...
