Does anyone have a recommendation for a good program for locating and removing viruses/spyware? my computer is in a bad way. Norton found nothing in it's search. I will not be renewing that useless service.

Norton is about as bad as the viruses themselves.

Yeah, i'm going to get rid of Norton right now. Malwarebytes has been purchased and installed and I think I'm all good! that was too easy.

worst case, run Malwarebytes in safe mode. some of the latest trojans are such that it's the only way to get rid of them.

Im trying to setup my showroom display and I need help with suggestions on different options. I want to use a tv/monitor setup connected to a laptop or ipad that can be used as (p.o.s) point of sale area.

So my question is what are some of the better tv/monitor setup than I connect through Ethernet or wireless?

    Google tv?

    HELP

My work has now found a way (McAfee SiteAdvisor) to block everything non work-related from my laptop even when I'm not on the work network. That + the only smart-phone I have is my work's blackberry which has all the same sites blocked (including all personal email) and has text messaging disabled.

So, I need something. Any suggestions? I don’t want to pay more than $750 and would prefer to pay much less, but I don't want anything shitty.

Tablet? Laptop? Smart Phone? Netbook? iPod Touch?

I’ll primarily use it for the web. I’m used to a screen with a separate keyboard, so tablets may not be the way to go, but I can be convinced otherwise. I don’t need 3G or anything like that since I have a Verizon mifi card that work pays for and can be a wifi hotspot.

CNET speaks highly of the new HP Pavilion dm1.

Beyond that, I don't even know where to begin.

I don't completely understand the question, but I'll offer what I can.

We've had the dell studio hybrid at home connected to our TV for display / entertainment purposes and it's done the job OK. Naturally, you have to pick a separate monitor or TV, but at least you have the option of a complete operating system.

We just have a really long HDMI and a really long VGA cable connecting between the two.

I think you need to personally figure out what kind of device you want. Technology is at the point where you can find bitchin devices in all of those categories and something in your price range. You need to go look at what you want and not ask for random opinions from strangers. If you were choosing between say 5 laptops, I would throw my 2 cents in but with this wide open of a selection you need to do some leg work first.

I think I'm leaning cheap laptop or netbook. I determined I really need a keyboard. Or, if a tablet had a handy keyboard option and better reviews than a laptop, I'd consider that as well.

I just used my fantasy football winnings to buy a couple Sonos Zone players. God I can't wait for them to get here.

I just had to gush a bit about my new android phone.

samsung's feature phone. don't konw what it gets branded as in the states but on rogers in canada it's the galaxy S captivate.

1ghz hummingbird chip, 4 inch capacitive multi touch super-AMOLED display, hd video recording/playback/HDdivx5, running froyo (android 2.2), pretty much everything but a blowjob machine, and the battery will actually take a whole day of 3g and wifi gobbling, screen cranked to max brightness, speaker calls, and excessive playing of angry birds.

syncs my gmal, facebook, skype, and SIM card contacts all together as well, which is super helpful.

OH, and unlike the iphone4, it has exceptional reception and clarity. AND the speech-to-text/text-to-speech works perfectly as well. that's something I've wanted to have in a functional form since I was like 10. also INCREDIBLY useful at my restaurant, where I have an inordinate number of hearing impaired customers. I can sign enough to take orders and stuff, but the last couple days I worked last week I actually got to "talk" to a couple of the regulars. it was really neat.

I looked into the Sonos systems for awhile, but found it very pricy.

Instead, I realized the only gap was really upstairs, so I went with the Logitech Squeezebox for our bedroom. For $150, I've never been happier with a technology purchase.

*edit: same squeezebox story you told a year ago bro.

I bought 2 ZP90s, the ones that you use with an amp already in place. That way I just hook up one to my entertainment center, and one in the office, since I already have stereos in both locations. I'd eventually like to get the S5 in the bedroom, but can't afford it at the moment. Like Wes said, they're very expensive. Still, they do multi-room entertainment better than anything else for the same price range. I looked at squeezebox too, but it just didnt come close in terms of multi-room functionality. I love that I can choose from multiple sources and play each one in a different room, or all in the same room, all from my iphone/ipad.

I have been drooling over this thing for a while now, and cleaned up in my fantasy football leagues this year, so figured fuck it...might as well buy myself an awesome new toy. The cool thing is you can keep adding to it over time. When you save up an extra couple hundred, buy a new zone player, and just attach it to your current system with the push of a button.

airport is basically just a wireless router. it allows devices to communicate over wifi. sonos is a complete music streaming system that allows you to stream music all over your house.

yea so does the airport express, (i dont think i meant the base station), $99 per unit, put a unit in every room you want music..attach speakers to it, connect it to your home network and play anything in your itunes collection from any computer/ipod/ipad on the network

looks like the difference is that with airport express, you can only play one source (itunes) and choose which speakers you want to play it. with sonos, you can have multiple sources (pandora, last.fm, your dvr box, ipod, itunes, cd player, etc) and play different sources in different rooms at the same time. plus it doesnt require itunes to work. airport is probably much cheaper though.

4G for Coachella? I was playing around with Clearwire.com coverage maps to see where I might be able to get 4G Wimax service on Sprint in Phoenix if I decide to upgrade my phone (very limited, but they have a couple of spots in the Valley now).

As a goof, I checked Indio, as it is not considered a 4G Sprint/Clearwire city. Lo and behold, they show a 4G tower near the polo fields, and the are is marked in green, indicating coverage. Probably won't have a device that can use this by then, but it might be of interest for people if they do (EVO, etc) and will be at Coachella.

What browser are you using? Sounds like it needs an update, or right click on the broken link (telling you that it needs a plug-in) to see the options... such as install.

Should be an easy fix, one of those solutions...

My external hard drive (WD 1TB) was unplugged from my computer for about a week and now my computer won't read it. I gave it to my brother, he put about 15 gigs of music on it, gave it back to me, I plugged it in and accessed all his files, put them in itunes, etc, and then randomly the next day my computer stopped reading the drive. When I double click on the desktop icon nothing happens, and when I right click and try to open it, I get a popup that says "The drive or network connection that the shortcut "My Book (J) - Shortcut.Ink" refers to is unavailable. Make sure that the disk is properly inserted or the network resource is available, and then try again."

I've tried rebooting the computer a couple times and unplugging/plugging back in the drive, and nothing works. I tried to find whatever drive it was talking about and it searched for a while and then said it couldn't find anything.

    Any suggestions?
